Kindle 4th gen non-touch not responding to SSH
Hi guys,
I've tried to access my Kindle 4th gen non-touch via SSH after the jailbreak and after installing usbnetwork package however I'm unable to do so. My Kindle has firmware 4.1.1 and I'm positive it's jailbreak-en successfully. It also responds to ping on 192.168.15.244 . I have it in ENABLE_DIAGS mode where I enabled usbnetworking in utilities. I suspect that sshd is either not started or ssh keys are not present on the device operating system. ![]() Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

But there is a "README" file in the USBnetworking package that would help. - - - - Why have you enabled the "Diags" system mode? Your Kindle is a dual-boot system. You installed the USBnetworking package to the "Main" system and now you are booting into the other (Diags) system. Try again, while running the "Main" system. I.E: Remove ENABLE_DIAGS file Note: Even in "Main" system mode, you will have to toggle USBnetworking on (and off). There are easy to use KUAL buttons for that purpose. In addition to what knc1 said, don't mix the IPs around. USBNetwork (the hack, not diags), might be using a different address setup than diags.

I have jailbreak and USBNetworking (kindle-usbnetwork-0.54.N-k4.rar from here) installed. I'm trying to toggle the USBnetworking the way it's described on this forum: 1) enter ";debugOn" (no quotes) in search field and search for it 2) enter "~usbNetwork" (no quotes) in search field and search for it connect the kindle to my mac and I cannot see the RNDIS adapter connected (as I see it in ENABLE_DIAGS mode). What am I missing ![]() Thanks. ![]() |

@RipperSK: Check what's happening with KUAL (enable verbose mode first, then check/toggle).

@RipperSK: Enable verbose mode, then toggle, and check what's printed at the bottom of the screen.

I've tried to scan 192.168.0.0 / 16 with nmap for an active IP that could belong to kindle but without any luck. I've ended up with Ethernet, USBNetwork, Wifi Adapter and Router IPs. I'll check the USBNet config and let you know the outcome. |

Are your MAC ports USB-3 rather than USB-2 ?

@knc1: FWIW, never had any issues with USBNet on USB3 ports on OS X. USBMS, yes, USBNet, nope

Hi guys,
to update you on a "progress" it went all to hell really... After another reset I've encountered message "your kindle is no longer a test kindle... " and KUAL also stopped to work alltogather. Searching the web and this forum I found out that developer keys somehow got expired... These need to be copied to /var/local/java/keystore/ .. which of course I'm unable to do without USBNet which I'm trying to enable this whole time. Going in circles. I've tried to launch a shell script that could copy those keys to the desired location. That does not work at all as well. K4 has no support of launchpad and kite has been developed till K3. Factory reset also didn't help. After I got JailBreak back and KUAL and all the others - it just says the same thing - your kindle is no longer a test kindle bla bla. I'd rather not comment on how is Amazon able to develop a system with so many restrictions and downfalls. FYI I have usb 2.0 . Even when I got USBNet and ssh active before I did not have an IP address to connect to on a whole 192.168.0.0/16 range. |

Re-install MKK.
**also after any time you do a 'factory reset' or change registration** Can you see the USB storage area (when ssh is off) over the same cable and port? No == use a cable with all four leads, not just a charging (2 wire) cable. |

You do have to set the IP up in OS X's network manager, there's no DHCP.
EDIT: Except, well, with the IP that matches your config. I happen to be using the 'old' defaults of the K2/K3 era, whereas the K4/K5 USBNetwork installer uses the same settings as diags on fresh setups (i.e., set the IP to 192.168.15.201 instead). Last edited by NiLuJe; 11-06-2014 at 03:49 PM. |

Open the spoiler. Make a change in the directions to the Kindle's ip address as required. I do not recall if the default for the K4 is different or the same as the one set for the PW1. Last edited by knc1; 08-12-2014 at 09:42 PM. |

@knc1: Same as the K5/PW1/PW2, hence my edit
