Free (Kindle/iTunes) Man Who Understood Cats [Gay Shrink/Straight Cop Murder Mystery]
The Man Who Understood Cats by Michael Allen Dymmoch (SYKM) is the 1st in her Caleb & Thinnes series of murder mysteries starring a gay psychiatrist and a presumably straight police detective who together, they fight crime! (and don't become a crime-fighting couple, in case you were wondering) involving cats in every novel of the series, it seems, this installment the obligatory reluctant meet-and-team-up to catch a killer, free courtesy of publisher Diversion Books, who are e-printing it from the 1993 Minotaur hardcover.
Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK) and iTunes (available to Canadians). If you happen to like this one, further reprints in the series from Diversion Books are couponable @ Kobo and appear to be reasonably low-priced to begin with. And this has been the (late again!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because it's always nice to get some more diversity in the kinds of characters which populate the books we're getting, especially in nifty-looking backlist freebies. Also, as a no-romo, I appreciate it when a team-up between two disparate characters who end up working closely together for the next five books of their lives does not end up in their becoming the Truest Loves To Ever Love, as so often happens in many of the freebies we normally do get. Enjoy! Description Two unlikely partners join forces to solve a murder disguised as suicide and catch a killer ready to strike again. Gold Coast psychiatrist Jack Caleb is wealthy, cultured, and gay. When one of his clients is found dead in a locked apartment—apparently from a self-inflicted wound— burned-out Chicago detective John Thinnes doesn’t believe it was suicide. And Caleb is inclined to agree. But Thinnes regards a shrink who makes house calls suspicious and starts his murder investigation with the doctor himself. An attack on Caleb that's made to look like an accidental drug overdose starts to change the detective’s mind. Soon, the two men find themselves a whirlwind of theft, scandal, and blackmail. Forced into an unlikely partnership, they’ll have to confront not only a killer, but hard truths within themselves that will change them forever. Last edited by ATDrake; 01-07-2015 at 04:35 PM. Reason: It turns out the author is a woman, according to their bio-blurb. |
