Email a book to your Kindle from calibre it will then appear in your archive...

Yes, but I have a bunch sync'd already, is it possible to archive those? Usually just pushing the book I want archived shows the option, but not the books I snyc from calibre.

If there is no other way, should I just email all books from calibre?

The archive feature is offered by Amazon for books you've purchased from Amazon. So, unless I'm misunderstanding the question, no, you cannot archive books you didn't buy from Amazon.

I'm not sure about ebooks you email to Amazon...I thought they didn't show up in the archives past a very brief window of time allowing you to download them to your assorted kindles.

From the Kindle Help pages:

Removing Personal Content
Personal documents you transfer to your Kindle are not backed up at Amazon.com. If you wish to keep a copy of personal items for backup before deleting them from your Kindle, you'll need to save them to your computer or another storage device.

Well, it works for me with Software version 3.3. I email a book to mine or my partners kindle and it appears in my archive...If I delete from my kindle it remains in my archive.

I was hoping to have it in normal view, then archivable, and out of view.

amazon doesn't store anything that you just copied over manually. when you "archive" a book you bought from them, you aren't actually pushing it into the archive. you are just removing it from that particular device. it's already stored there from the time that you purchased it.

in terms of emailing things, this is pretty new, and not all the devices support it, but for the devices that do, if you email the book to your kindle, it will be stored if your settings at amazon.com/myk are set up with personal document archiving turned on. note that you can only store 5GB of personal documents on Amazon's servers.

that's what archiving means. an item can only either show up in the archives or on the kindle homescreen. the archive list is just a list of items that are on amazon's servers for your account, that aren't on your device.

ahhh, gotcha.

so can I email myself a mobi file, and then just use that?

It's a support filed type :

link

I just don't see my files though, after emailing them...are they delayed? Doing it this method, I could get around calibre entirely!
