I lost my Kobo ereader -- and with it went its manual.
Anybody would know what do I need to do to prevent somebody else to use my account with Kobo to buy books? It was also connected to my account with Adobe. Is there any way of breaking its link with Adobe? Many thanks for your help. |

For someone to use your adobe account, they would have to log into ADE with the email address and password that is registered with Adobe. I don't think that information is stored on your Kobo.
Now, with Vox, changing your Kobo account password via the website somehow does not automatically trigger a request for a new password on the Vox. This could be true for buying books through WiFi on the Touch. I was told that if you contact customer care they can do something about this. While waiting for more information, I would change the password and take out your credit card information. This ereader was the original Kobo. If I recall correctly, I think I had to give my e-mail when registering it with Kobo.

Well, you are in luck then. Remember, if the person who found your Kobo-O wants to use it to buy books, he or she will have to download the desktop app and then sign in with both the email address AND the password on file. As no one can use it to buy books without logging into Kobo with both your password and your Email address, you should be fine. Just to be sure, you can always change the password.
You should not make any changes to the Adobe account--password or email address. There will be no Kobo books to download to it, in any case--at least not purchased on your account. Last edited by taming; 12-18-2011 at 05:52 PM. |

Remember, when you use an app of any kind for the first time, you have to sign into the Kobo account. The person who found the Kobo would have to know the current working password to set any app up: desktop app, blackberry, iOS, Android.
If the password has been changed, then an attempt made later would simply not work. As I said earlier, apparently Kobo can do something to keep a particular device from accessing the account--at least they can with the Vox. It is worth a call to try that. Kobo states that they only allow six devices to access any one account. Perhaps that means that they have a record of what devices are associated with an account and can disassociate one. if it's the original kobo one, without Wifi, there's really no problem. They cannot use it directly to download or purchase books. They will have to log in via desktop app. Since the passwords you enter are never stored as plain text, they wont have your account details and be unable to do this
however, Changing your password regularly, to something not easily guessed, is always a smart idea. Even if it were the WiFi model. I believe the second you change your password with Kobo, the device would no longer be able to connect to their serveres. They will have whatever books are on the device currently to read, But that is about it. if you use a blackberry with the Kobo App and lose it as asked? I'd be more concerned about the Blackberry and the Data on it! However, if you ever lost your blackberry itself, Contact your carrier IMMEDIATELY. Blackberry's have fantastic security. I mean industry leading that no other mobile devices have. Your Carrier or RIM themselves can immediately over the network disable a lost blackberry and remotely factory wipe all data, including kobo and it's data off the device. RIM can even force a handheld remotely to brick itself. Losing a blackberry is actually one of the safest devices for the data to lose |

I have an Android phone and purchase a service that will locate and even wipe my phone should it be lost or stolen. I can't imagine not having something that would do this with all the information that is on my cellphone.
