Loading books onto T1 - UK owner
Hi - I've just bought a Sony T1 - my first e-reader. So far I've successfully loaded a copy of Arabian nights from Google Books onto it. I've purchased two books from Waterstones and now can't seem to transfer them to my T1. When I first set up the Reader I installed the American Reader software by mistake. I have also installed the Adobe Digital Editions as told by Waterstones website where the two books are now safely downloaded. I realised my error installing the US Reader and installed the UK version Reader Library but can't work out how to transfer the books. I can't seem to transfer them from my hard drive into the Reader Library. Any suggestions? Thanks

I installed the Sony Reader Software (from the US Sony ebook store) on my Mac as well and it works fine with my T1. I would assume that this is the dedicated software for the T1. The Sony Reader Library Software used to ship with the previous models. In any case, you should always only use one software/app to manage your device as there is a chance of corrupting files if two programs/apps try to access the device at the same time.
In the Sony Reader Software you can set the country to the UK as well (In the Setting dialog on the Mac, there must be something similar for Windows). One you connect the T1 to your PC via the USB cable it will ask you if you want it to go in data transfer mode. Confirm this on the T1 and a few seconds in the Reader software you will see a new tab on the top for your ereader. I hope this helps! |

Thanks Diddy for your reply. I've given up on the Reader Library software for now as it seems to not be active in UK at the mo. Everything seems to be behind regarding the T1 here. However the Adobe Digital Editions seems to be my best hope as the books are there now in several copies and it's just a matter of getting it to recognise my e-reader and hopefully I will manage to transfer them. I am slowly getting my head round it all. I think there are other threads on this so will investigate - thanks anyway.

Just a thought, have you authorized the device with ADE? I know I couldn't download until mine was authorized.

Hi! Yes I went to website and did that and I checked on the Adobe Digital Editions when it's open and it says this computer is authorised etc. Still no luck getting the ADE to recognise the e-reader as a 'bookshelf'. I uninstalled and re-installed the Reader software and once again the Reader software that comes with the T1 recognised all my books including the ones in ADE but when I uninstalled it and installed the PC software from the UK Sony website it didn't recognise any of them!! I think there is an issue with the Sony UK PC software. Unfortunatly their support phone lines are only open 9-5 Mon to Fri!!! When I am working of course - how customer friendly!!!

As said, the US version of the Sony Reader software (this is not the Sony Reader Library software) works for me. You can just change in the settings the country to UK.

Hi diddy - I've got the US Reader software to come up with my books in it but it won't let me synch with my T1 unless I register my e-reader there but won't let me register because I am from the UK - there is only options for USA or Canada in the countries. It just sends me back to the UK Sony website which I am finding more and more frustrating. How have you got around this?

That is strange, because my Sony Reader for PC software has selections for various countries in Europe including the UK.

I have a Mac version so I cannot precisely tell you where you well find the settings dialog on the Windows version. Just try to find in the menu something like Settings or so. In there you will have to option to choose Language and Region. That's all you have to change. Then when you click the store icon, you will see some links to WHSmith, Waterstones etc. When you connect your T1 it will ask you for your ADE details as well. You have to provide this in order to copy DRM content to the T1.

Look under the Edit menu in Preferences. There you can choose the Region and Language.

It lets me put in UK and lets me load up the software fine. Everything's OK that far - it's only when I try to download it on to the reader itself that a pop-up box comes up telling me to register with the US site - and create account. It does give me an option to browse but then if I go back to register I can fill in my details down to my address but when you put in your country it just gives me a choice of US or Canada! If I close the box and try and just hit the synch it just shows a strip saying login now. And I'm stuck.
I have downloaded calibre and seem to be getting a tad further with that but am still only downloading free stuff. I want to download new books. I was about to buy off WHSmiths but see they have gone into a deal with Kobo and went to their site and it says something about using ADE!!! Which I still can't use. I am now seriously thinking about returning my PRS-T1! |

I'll wait for someone to come along from UK to help. Calibre works good, though. You should be able to put books bought from that Kobo shop onto your T1. ADE isn't hard, in fact I thought you needed to have your computer Authorized to use the Sony Reader Software.

Hi Tammy
I just got my T1 today. I installed the Reader software that comes on the reader itself and authorised the device when I clicked on 'Store'. I couldn't get the reader to show up in ADE though. However, I just bought a book from waterstones and when I clicked on download, the reader software came into focus and low and behold the book I bought appeared on the device and the reader library, didn't go through ADE it seems ![]() |

Hi Mr F - you say your authorised your device - was that on the US website or the UK website? I find when I use the Reader software on the device it takes me firstly to the US site and when I try and register there (which I'm quite happy to do) I can't cos I don't live in the US - not being able to put my UK details in. My device is already registered on the UK site. The two books I've ordered from Waterstones are listed in my reader library but I can't get them onto my device cos I can't register in the US (so it seems..)
I know I should have done it a tad earlier but I think I'll slip Sony a little email.. |
