tech.problems, HELP.
Hello everyone,
not a tech expert so hopefully you can make any possible solutions fairly simple. First problem which is REALLY bugging Me(pardon the pun) is the reader app in My pb 701iq.It keeps blackscreening while reading or after a couple of mins. not reading or just putting down for a few seconds, then says, after taking 4 to 5 times longer to find the same page or going back to the front of the book,"sorry, reader application closed unexpectedly" so i choose the "force close" option, and then have to start all over again.I haven't changed anything in the machine and it seems to be happening more and more frequently even though I have only just over a 100 books in the iq,which I read in the epub format which is nice and simple for downloading and reading. Is it a machine problem or a reader app problem or can I replace the reader app totally?Very frustrating. Also, there appears to be a 2.1.1 update for the iq which requires a 2.0.6 update to be updated from but,I don't see a 2.0.6 update on the Greenreader website for the iq,only for the pb 602.The only new update for the iq is the 2.0.3 which the iq came with already installed. Is the Greenreader site THAT slow to get updates or can I get this 2.0.6 update from somewhere else or is there a simpler solution? Re;the first problem,I saw on one of the forums someone suggesting the "coolreader" app.Would this be better and would it solve the problem the present reader app seems to have and where would I find it? Sorry for this very long thread, trying to give all relevant info. Here's hoping someone can help Thanks very much. |

Alternative to PB Reader try Aldiko 2.0 which also supports Adobe DRM ( if that's an issue). There's a freeversion which you should be able to download from somewhere even without Market access.
FW 2.0.6 is downloadable from here or any other PB site, and you might consider using it because there are some hacks available who will root the device and give you access to Android Market. Most of the Data are here, but this is from the german forum, so if you need help just PN me ![]() |

Be sure to save any data you have loaded to your PB701, as depending on firmware releases your data can be lost. I tend to keep my data on SD cards, and have one dedicated to loading firmware. Complete overkill for a minor issue but it gives me peace of mind. Quote:

For instance, the 211 firmware user interface is somewhat different. The 212CR User Guide improves the doc a bit, but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet. HTH and good luck, marf |

you can find the 2.06 at pocketbooks main site.
Don't bother with 2.1.1...........it's buggy. You can also go into tools and click on factory reset. I agree with Troll05 on aikido............at least you'll be able to change fonts as well as size. |

Thanks for the pointer to aldiko, I hadn't heard of it before. I'll have to look into it. The CR3 version I'm running lets you change fonts but there are only four choices (all Droid-something).
I should have said more about 206 vs 211. I agree 206 is a better choice as well, particularly since (so I've heard) you can't use marketplace with 211. I think I may have also read there may be problems with rooting 211, but I haven't tried to root mine so I can't say. And of course, there's the wifi issue (fixable as musicman said with a reset). And Text2Speech (TTS). I stuck with 211 because it's not preventing me from doing anything I care about. Maybe I'm just lazy. |

Yes, CoolReader and Moon+ are two very good readers.
It's strange, but I didn't have any problems with the latest firmware except having to do factory reset to get WiFi going again. It's not buggy for me, ad the reader app works as expected, I just don't use it. Maybe I've been lucky... |

Really? Wow. Mine can go for days without having to recharge (if I'm not using it, of course, then it's a few hours depending on how intense my use is), and I never experienced it waking up.
