Sony Reader engraving

I just received my Sony Reader that was engraved for free by SonyStyle. Truthfully I think it was a waste. The typeface was so small that it wasn't even worth the time I waited for the unit to come in the mail. If I had walked into any store, bought some of stencil letters you scratch onto the unit it would have been more attractive. I can hardly see what was "lasered" onto the plastic.

Instead of waiting for it to come in the mail I could have walked into a Sony store and purchased it on the spot. Now I can't even return the unit if I find it doesn't suit my needs because it's engraved. Argh. My suggestion is to forego the engraving and do it yourself.

HOWEVER, that said, the unit itself is really nice, so I don't think I'll be returning it. The screen refresh is quick enough that I don't lose any momentum when reading the last word on a page to the first word on the next.

So what did you engrave on it? Mind to share?

Nothing special. Just my initials.

You know, after looking at it I may have been overly critical of it. I have the engraving on the silver model. It's hard to see straight on, but if you hold the unit at different angles the letters take on different shades. I take back what I said earlier, it's actually kind of nice.

So I admit my mistake. Perhaps people should get the engraving afterall since it doesn't cost anything anyway.

If I had a digital camera I would take a picture of it. If I get my hands on one I'll definitely do it.

Can you return it if you've had it engraved - that makes it un-resellable, surely? I know that if you get an iPod engraved, you can't return it.

Harry,
You can't return it if it's engraved. You also can't sell it unless you have a cool quote engraved on it and someone likes it or you become a huge author that fans would want anything you owned. I knew I'd keep it even if it became obsolete that's why I had the engraving done.

Speaking of iPod, my son's engraved iPod broke minutes after he received it. Apple took 3 MONTHS, not weeks but months to fix it. He really never got to use it until it came back. How's that for a Christmas present? That's the hazards of getting something engraved, though it does look pretty nice. Needless to say his second iPod wasn't engraved.
