Screen stuck with strange shapes

help:

Hello everyone. I hope this is the right forum to post this. My Sony PRS300 suddenly started acting up a few days ago. When I switched it on, I got strange lines and the screen is now stuck on it. I have attached an image of the screen in its current state.

I have tried recharging it (through USB) over night, and I tried to reset it, both to no avail. Is my reader shot? Or am I missing something? Any pointers/help is appreciated.

Thank you.

No image attached, but it does sound like a broken substrate. When you upload the picture a more definite diagnosis will be possible.

Thank you for the fast response. I think the screenshot should work now.

Yes, that's a broken substrate. Underneath the eInk screen material is a glass substrate that has the electronics that control the displayed pixels on it. Something has pressed on the screen and it has shattered.

You'll need to contact Sony and see if they will replace it or repair it or give some kind of discount on a new ereader.

If you're really lucky they might do something for you free of charge, but I suspect not.

Thank you. Since I bought the reader refurbished and it is more than a year old, I doubt Sony will be very lenient. Sigh, I guess its time to look for an upgrade.

It's worth a try! At least give Sony's customer service a change to say "tough luck!" before you give up on that route. You never know....
