testing results
I want my epub resulting from Sigil to display equally well on any device. Do I need to download separate applications for PC for the Nook, Kobo, ADE to test my results? or can I pretty much assume that what I see in the Sigil window will be what I get on any device?
How do I test my epub on a smart phone? Do I need to test separately on an android phone (maybe using Aldiko) and an iPhone? My document has tables and graphics, and I'm not sure how they'll display on various devices. I know that my Sony 350 has trouble with the large graphics, and doesn't have a vertical scroll (that I can find) so I can see all of a large graphic. I'm worried about how these elements will display on even smaller units |

I would definitely download as many applications as you could for testing, but unfortunately most of the desktop applications use different rendering engines than their hardware (i.e. the Nook app verses the Nook hardware) so they aren't a very good way to test for devices. The only real way to test for devices is to test on those devices.
The book view in Sigil is not a very accurate way to test how a book will display (it's much more forgiving of CSS errors that ADE is). With large images I try not to exceed 600 pixels wide by 730 pixels high (the actual usable screen resolution of my nook). |

The only way to know how an EPUB will look when read by a specific application is to opening it in that application.
EPUB (even MOBI) has the same issue as web sites. Different browsers will display a page differently. Simply because not all web browsers implement all of the spec and because some parts of the spec are ambiguous. |
