I created a list of the science fiction books that won, or were nominated for, the Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, and Locus awards. As a Sci-Fi fan, I found this helpful in deciding what to read on my Kindle.
Here is the link to the list The list is sorted by score, and then by title. An award win=2, a nomination=1. The awards are listed with W and N for won or nomination. I started this list using dugbug's spreadsheet from this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24766 The following are some improvements I'm considering: 1) Add a column indicating if there is an E-book available for the title 2) Link the titles to Amazon 3) Add the nominations for the Arthur C. Clark awards 4) Add other awards Other thoughts: -- I'm wondering if the formula should be more complex, for example, add more weight to some awards, like Hugo and Nebula. -- There are other awards. See this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...fiction_awards I'm not that familiar with how they all compare in terms of value and which ones should be included. I'm open to suggestions. Last edited by ectoplasm; 08-25-2011 at 06:21 PM. |

I have bookmarked the SciFi Masterworks page on my iPhone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SF_Masterworks I don't think it contains nominations though. |

The SF Masterworks are a series of previously published books chosen by a publisher. It's not really an award, although they do choose good books IMO.
The Hugo Award is an award voted by fans. The Nebula Award is an award voted by authors. With the combination of the Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, and Locus awards and their nominations, there are currently 644 distinct titles. |

Great stuff! However, I would seriously recommend adding the John W. Campbell Memorial Award winners as well.
Not to be confused with the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, which is awarded at the Hugos, but is given to an individual, not to a title. C. |

I'm also working on an improved format for the table. I've given up on trying to bend the Google spreadsheet to my will, so I'm writing code to generate the table the way I want. Should be ready soon. |

Very Good! Thank you.
I've never used a google spreadsheet before. Is it possible to sort by column? When it comes to SciFi, I'm always interested in the most recent stuff first. There are less likely to contain unknowns that are now known (e.g. intelligent life and canals on Mars?), and more likely to incorporate intriguing new real science (carbon allotropes, nanomachines) in plausible, clever ways. |

Google spreadsheets can sort columns, but I've given up going in that direction. I think you'll find the new technique will be significantly better. I expect to have the first version online later today. |

As promised, here is a link to the new version:
http://scifiawards.herobo.com/ This is still rough, but it demonstrates my basic intent, and I think it's much more readable than the Google spreadsheet. It is sorted by score in descending order, then title. There is still more to do. More award data will be added, and at least one additional sort will be added. The next sort will be primary by award year descending, and secondary by either title or author. Comments and critiques are welcome. Last edited by ectoplasm; 08-25-2011 at 06:21 PM. |

I have really enjoyed looking over this list. Lots of books there that I recall reading. I think that it would be a good idea if you could tag the books that have released as ebooks, give us a chance to find them.

@VicLavigne: I think an ebook indicator is next. I'm at the point where I will only consider a book if there is ebook version.

+1 on the ebook indicator. That would be very handy.

Just skimming through your table brought back some fond memories - many of my favorites are there. I'm sure it'll serve as inspiration for further reading (alas, my to-read list is already too long).

I started adding ebook indicators. I only got through the first 50 (of 643). It is a manual process. If anyone is willing to help out, let me know.
The ebook column uses the following codes: +K = Kindle version available -K = Kindle version not available +E = EPub version (probably B&N Nook) version available -E = EPub version not available (or not found) I decided to break it down this way so it's possible to know if something has or has not been checked. After doing this, I'm starting to think a better way is to make a separate K and E column with Y or N or blank for each column. @Dazrin: The Google spreadsheet was not even close to being as readable as the current version. I'm guessing your workplace filters out *.herobo.com because it offers free hosting. That's unfortunate, but I can't see making a change unless it's blocked for a large percentage of users.
