Working with PRS+ and Folders

Hi folks,

I love calibre. I just installed PRS+ on my prs-650, mostly to take advantage of the ability to organize my library by folders. Is there any way that calibre can work with that kind of folder organization?

If not, should I be organizing things by collections instead? I have a bunch of different books and papers i'd like to organize, preferrably hierarchically, eg:
Code:

  tech
    databases
      book1
      book2
    programming
      book3
  novels
    book4
    book5
...
thanks!

Where does PRS+ get the folder information?

If it gets it from the folders on the device's file system, then use the save template to construct whatever folder hierarchy you want from book metadata. My guess is that you will want to use some custom columns to indicate where books should go. If the same book can go in multiple folders, then more than one copy of the book will be on the device (general problem with filesystem organization).

If PRS+ gets folder information from some internal database, then no, calibre won't use them

Regarding collections: the sony does not support hierarchical collections, so calibre doesn't. You can make collection names that look hierarchical (tech.databases, tech.programming), but you won't be able to open and close them.

thanks chaley. PRS+'s "folders" are filesystem-based, hence i suppose i'll have to use the save template. Perhaps i'll define a few columns for the different levels of the hierarchy, though it's a little kludgey. I dunno - maybe i should just stick will single-level collections or something...

You could create a single column containing the folder path you want.

If you make the column 'hierarchical' (preferences -> look & feel -> tag browser) then you can also open/close the hierarchy in the tag browser. In this case you would use the 're' template function to convert the period into a slash when using the item as a path in the send template ({#foocolumn:re(.,/)}).
