Calibre Update Help

A couple weeks ago I installed Calibre 0.8.8 and I have downloaded a few ebooks to it since. In control panel it reads as a 100MB program.

Yesterday I received a prompt when opening Calibre to "update to 0.8.9" and I did. I did not uninstall 0.8.8 thinking that it would only install updates I needed. The download and uninstall seemed to go fine.

When I go to control panel I now see that Calibre 0.8.9 is a 278MB file. That seems rather large. Did I do something wrong or is the file now that large--going from 100MB to 278MB in the update?

But when I go to C>Program Files and click on Calibre2, I see a 118MB file?

Thanks in advance, JK

The control Panel is a very unscientific, rough estimation of program size. I would not worry one bit.

Installing calibre without removing the old version works just fine. I've been doing it for ages and never had a single problem. The discrepancy you see might be a bug in Windows. I checked my control panel and I see 118MB for 0.8.9.

Thanks for the info. I knew something was wrong with the 2 different file sizes. 278MB vs 118MB, glad to know it's really 118MB--I hate too much bloat.

Windows installers place files everywhere (the are supposed to) when they install.
Some parts may go in Programs, others go in System areas, and then there is User specific files.
Just to confuse things more. A Installer, can launch additional 'installers' as needed, as part of the build out of 'shared tools'. (nat claiming that Calibre does this)
