how much light?

If I get a nook simple touch do i need a ton of light to read or will in direct room light be good enough?

The background of the e-ink display is just a tad bit darker than paper.

But basically light sufficient enough for you to read a book will also suffice for an ebook reader.

What rahulm said. The contrast on the current generaton of eink isn't quite as good as it is on high quality paper books, but it's better than it is on a lot of crappy, cheap paperbacks.

I agree with these remarks. I find it very similar to reading real paper, with perhaps a little more light nice but not absolutely necessary.
