Talking Mama's got a brand new toy!

Charging now: A brand new shiny black EE (enTourage eDGe, full-size! ).

Came in the box with the EULA sticker intact from "pcukid" (really Tech U, from Amazon Marketplace) on ebay. For anyone who might be interested, they have at least 4 more on sale now. $249 bid or $349 buy now. I believe they do not ship internationally, but worth asking. They answered several questions through the ebay message system before I made my winning bid.

I can't believe the size of this thing! It doesn't seem so huge until you open it up and see that the e-ink screen alone is bigger than the entire PE, case and all! I am going to have some fun now!! Talk about immersive reading!

I'll be following the steps posted by all you good pioneers to upgrade immediately. After that I'll just relax and enjoy it for a while.

Yup. The big screen is awesome. I use the EE for reviewing design docs at work. Full letter-sized pages display just fine.

Nice! Now you can see why starting with an EE, I was hesitant to settle for the smaller screen of the PE.

I do see what you mean about the screen size, Sarah! And now it makes sense that you could use your EE as a substitute laptop for a while.

However, there's a lot to be said for the PE's portability. I took it shopping the other day and read my book while waiting for the coffee to grind, and standing in line when I had checked everything off my list on the tablet side. And for waiting rooms and making notes at a doctor's office it rocks -- which the EE would not!

Reading and researching (and I imagine writing) on the EE is a joy!! I'm so glad I finally have one!

Registered with enTourage and Adobe. Got the welcome email from enTourage -- newsletter! forum! (haha). Upgraded from Badger to Ermine directly, no problem. Ran into trouble when I forgot there was a physical switch for wifi and that I had turned it off. So far my only problem (besides that things look different, which surprises me), is that the browser crashes (as reported by North19 and Obsessed, among others). No big deal for me. Hibernation working smoothly so far.

I gave my Sony PRS-900 to my Dad today for Father's Day. The screen seems small, slow, and dim compared to my EE but it will be a good intro to ereading for my Dad. Amazing to think the Sony cost me more new than the EE did.

Thank you all for letting me share my excitement!

Can somebody explain me one more time: why we need children?
You 've spent the best years of your life looking after them, caring, loving,...
And what you got in return: re-gifted old used toy nobody else wants anymore.

Filark, grab a copy of the Dolphin HD browser, it works with everything I've thrown at it but my use is most probably not typical - looking for technical information on parts and tech manuals and a couple of blogs.

@ptsenter: My Dad probably agrees with you! I've been after him for a couple of years now to try an ereader -- trying to force his hand!

Ivan, thanks for the tip! Think I'll download Dolphin HD and maybe one or two of the other suggested browsers and see how they work. Never had much incentive to try anything other than the native browser on my PE . . .

Glad to hear you got an EE and it's up and running. I too have had ZERO hibernation issues with the EE. As far as browsers go, Opera Mini 6 works well on my EE and I am happy to report it hasn't crashed once. I only use the stock browser when I need reader interaction. Even when it crashes I restart and it picks back up where it was before it crashed. Enjoy your new toy.

Congrats! It took you quite a long time, but persistence paid off! Now enjoy and I hope you won't have issues.

We are The Beta Condemned, a marginalized cast of inhabitants within the Tablet Universe, who will never become Full Froyoites no matter how much we plead and beg. But while we wait for a revolution which brings us a new status by breaking the code, being Beta with a bigger device seems less uncomfortable. The cake was a lie after all, but if we have to eat bread, now you have a bigger loaf to relish!

By the way, how about the Camera?

I just took a picture of myself to answer Paula's question, and man was that green! I look like Gecko's long lost sister!

So... we're condemned AND GREEN? Wow Paula-T, that was DEEP!

I look at all this more pragmatically. Any developer who violates a non-disclosure agreement is unlikely to get another gig, so pleading and begging isn't going to get an SDK released. No, we didn't get "full" Froyo, but we did get a really good beta.

The decision to run their own "store" was arrogant and stupid, and has caused us to jump through lots of unsuccessful hoops to get Market, and scavenge for apps that should take seconds to download, but at least Entourage paid the price for their arrogance.

It seems like the technical people executed well, but the "suits" sunk the thing. We just rolled the high-tech dice. I paid a lot less than most (the Woot deal), so I see the PE as a "bridge" device, to tide me over while the tablet market settles down and the best technologies and companies distinguish themselves.
