protected page - no solution
hi ya'll,
ive gone through all the threads here concerning "protected page" message when trying to read a library book on the sony reader device for older model. Seems like sony is only updating the firmware to fix this issue for the 350 & 900/950 or whatever it is. ive come to the conclusion that there is no solution for reading library books in my 600. this blows! sony, shame on you. |

I read dozens of library books on my PRS-600 in the short time I had it before I sold it!

Have you followed these steps:
Install ADE on computer and authorize it to your Adobe account Plug in reader and authorize it to the same Adobe ID as you've authorized the computer. (If the reader was authorized to someone before you, first deauthorize it) You can use ADE or Sony's Reader Library to manage your library books. You do however have to make sure the PRS-600 is authorized to the right Adobe ID because when you download the library book Adobe will put DRM on it with that Adobe ID. |

You can read library books perfectly fine on the Sony 300 & 600 models. The Protected Page issue comes into play ONLY when you have a library PDF book and a library ePub book on the reader or computer at the same time. If you don't mix the two, you'll be perfectly fine.
Yes it's a bit of a pain but it's not like you can't read any library book. You just have to pay attention to the format of the library book you're borrowing. |

i have done everything suggested. i made sure the reader is authorized to me. then i even uninstall the reader library and installed it back. i have also took out all books and left just ONE library book (a epub) file and it doesn't work. i put 2 epub library books without any of my other books as well and both books are still showing "protected page"

This must be so frustrating! Actually I'm frustrated for you! I'm all out of ideas...
Could there be a problem with the clock setting on the Sony? Grasping at straws here... |

Once you get this message you need to delete all library books both EPUB and PDF from your ereader and your computer hard-drive. Then redownload only one file type from your library such as EPUB only. Then retransfer to your 600. If the problem is really the EPUB & PDF library combo problem, then those steps should make the protected message go away. It is an important step that you need to redownload from the library website. Hope that helps.

ahhh it's not working!! i deleted all library books from my device as well as my computer. then i re-download them from my library. i then upload 2 of the same files into my device and it is still showing "protected page"
it seems like everyone fixed their protected page issue by making sure it is the same format and not mixing epub and pdf files together. this is not the case for me. i took out all books from my device and kept one book. first a epub format then a pdf format. when i did that separately, it still wouldnt let me read it! |

I just realized that there are two threads on the similar topic.
Here is another idea. What software are you using to transfer the library books? You have to use Adobe Digital Editions or Sony Reader Library in order to get the special time expiration date to work. You cannot transfer library books using calibre or by drag-and-drop methods that work with non-library DRM'ed books. Do you get the DRM message with a purchased book? For example, if you download a book from the Sony Reader Store, do you see the protected error page? Is it only library books that you have a problem with? |

Hi Bookworm Girl,
The other thread created by me was because I couldn't import the library books into the Sony Reader Library. It was working before but then I had the protected page error so I did something and then I couldn't get the library books into the Sony Reader Library which in turns can't get it on my device. But that is fixed now...my issue still remains with the "protected page" message. Yes, I do still have the prs-600 and am using the Sony Reader Library. I actually got this reader from my sister recently. I deauthorize her account and reauthorize it to myself. I made sure my computer is authorized in the Sony Reader Library. (in the "about reader library", my email address is there) I had previously done a hard reset and then I had to authorized the Adobe DRM protected content, which I did under my Adobe ID. I haven't purchased a book in the Sony Reader Library yet. I'm having this issue with library books. I did what you suggested, deleted all library books from my ereader and from my hard drive (I even went to empty my recycle bin). Then I went into my library website and downloaded only one format and still the same protected page message. ![]() |

Here is another suggestion. Did you use the same email address & passwords for both your Adobe ID and your Sony Reader Library account? If not, then sometimes that can cause an error message.
Also, I would try to purchase a book through the Sony Reader Library and see if you still get the same error message. You can purchase a "zero-dollar" book so it doesn't cost you anything to do a test case. Go this website to see a list of free books and then search for it in the Reader Store. http://inkmesh.com/free-ebooks/?site=sony |

This might sound really silly but what is the date on your reader and what is the expiry date of your borrowed books? Have the books already expired? That could be why you're getting that error. Try dating the reader to one year ago & see what happens.

I give up. The email address for my Adobe ID and the Sony Reader Library is the same. As well as the passwords are the same. I purchased a zero dollar book on the Sony ebook store and I was able to read it on my device. I changed the date on my reader to 2010 (and then again to 2009) and it still doesn't read my library books. These books have not expired yet. I am still getting the protected page message for these borrowed library books. I have no idea why this is not working for me.

FINALLY, IT WORKED!!! wow....it was so simple. I tried putting the library books in the reader memory rather than my SD card and I was able to view it on my device. No more protected page. I still can't mix the formats. It has to be either epub or pdf, not both. I'm content with that, finally! Thanks everyone for your input!
