I'm also now getting these errors with metadata... I've tried it with books I know I've peviously downloaded the metadata for: (the one shown in the error I actually downloaded the metadata last week)

You've got some internet access problems. The most likely cause is an invalid procy defined in internet explorer.

Thank you for the quick response Kovid. I checked for proxies in IE and Maxathon I don't have any set, I also checked my network connections and nothing funky there... it's probably something on my end ..
If it helps to give another place I might check... the help button correctly opens my brower to the online Calibre manual... Also news and getbooks fail to retrieve data ... I'm rescanning with my malware/av as well as a couple online ones as well just in case it's something like that but after 2 run throughs have yet to find anything... if I happen to stumble upon what's causing it I'll post what stupid thing I overlooked... but I'm baffled as to what it could be... |

Thanks for the suggestion, That was one of the things I checked when it first happened I have calibre set to trusted in ZoneAlarm.. and I do not use windows firewall. ( I also ran calibre without any firewal or malware/av programs running ... (tried in both normal and windows safe mode ) also I un-install IE completely as well as maxathon, tried running it without either program on the machine, then again after reinstalling...
I can say I'm freeing up disk space and generally cleaning up my pc.. so I got that going for me ![]() |

Run this to confirm:
calibre-debug -c "from calibre import get_proxies; print get_proxies()" |

It isn't a proxy then. The error message says getaddrinfo failed with error code 10106 which I have never seen before, but a spot of googling indicates that it can happen if some dlls fail to load/initialize, usually because of an incorrect system root environment variable. Beyond that, I'm afraid I can't help you.

Thanks for your quick response one again.... I had assumed ( dumb I know) that the error codes were your internal ones, to point you in the right direction to debug Calibre You were correct.. as no other program was having any problems connecting I did not think it would be an operating system error...
It was a winsock error apparently.. I reset netsh (tcp stack and cleaned the registry values) and Calibre is running perfectly now... sorry to have put you through any inconvenience... |
