Sobbing, broker than broke and desperate for a new reader!!
![]() I dropped my Sony PRS-505 on the cement outside my grandson's physical therapists office. It went in three different directions and the screen busted. Now I have no reader except my laptop and that isn't convenient when hauling a 4 year old little boy around who is recovering from an injury. I went to Ebay to see about getting another one and MY GOODNESS they sure are proud of their used items and people are bidding super high on them. So I am looking for an alternative reader. That accepts pdf format and a mem card. Any of you have suggestions. |

I'm looking to upgrade from a PRS505 as well.
I've researched a fair amount and I think I like the Nook Touch the best. I'd get the PRS650 in a heartbeat if it were 150$ though, but it's difficult to find it under 200. |

Check your local Borders to see if they have any KOBO original model in stock.
They were running $60 as recently as yesterday: http://www.borders.com/online/store/...1&id=62667696& Next up, the New Kobo touch at $129 and the Pocketbook 360+ at $133. http://pocketbook-usa.com/products/pocketbook-360-plus/ Check their respective forums for details. The Kobo line goes for simplicity while the PB line is very feature rich and the 360, in particular, shines on ergonomics and portability. Last edited by fjtorres; 06-10-2011 at 11:55 PM. |

Teddie, don't forget the jetBook Lite, currently going for $89.99 at Newegg (or $64.99 for an open box item).

okay the Kobo is great just one question, what formats does it take since I don't see it in the description. I decided I didn't care what format it took. I am just thrilled to get it for the price I did. Which by the way was 20 cheaper than what I was willing to pay for a used 505. I can't believe I got it new, even if it is on back order with shipping and handling for 65. Thanks fjtorres for the heads up.

The original Kobo, which is the one on sale, supports epub and pdf, with and without adobe drm. That's it.
Here's a review: http://www.the-ebook-reader.com/kobo-ereader.html Thre things of note: 1- a lot of users seem to like the quilted rear 2- Kobo stores epubs in a sql database on the reader so, if you buy drm'ed ebooks from Kobo, note that some people prefer to go through Adobe Digital editions and then feed the epub to the kobo instead of going through the Kobo app. 3- The software has been updated and improved a lot over the last year. Hope you have fun with yours. Last edited by fjtorres; 06-11-2011 at 02:37 PM. |

Oops, sorry to mislead about the file formats - I guess there is still a market for the original Kobo. It is a good reader. So much talk about the new one that was just released mixed me up.
