stuck in email setting

i still have some trouble getting my email set up. i think it's ok in the incoming part, but on the outgoing part it won't work. i filled in the parts like smtp, but i constantly get the error message "setup could not finish. cannot connect to server. (no valid authentication mechanism found)".

i never heard about an authentication mechanism. does anyone knows what that means?

uhm, next problemin my email. i change address and i try to get the details in. email address goes well, filling in the password goes well, but then i got an error message when i touch next. it then shows: setup could not finish, username or password incorrect ().
huh? and why do i get that? any idea?

the joke is, when i put back the old email address, it goes ok. so I need to delete the complete settings. how do I do that?

uhm, when i try to empty trash, it is throwing away only 1 item. so,in the meantime i've got 94 items. i can select empty trash, but only 1 items is going. if i go into trash, it's empty. if i look into the folder list, trash still has 88 items and k9mail-errors only 1. but there to, if i go into it, there is nothing.
if i go into folder list and tap menu, i can choose for empty trash. there is flitsing something in the top-bar, next to my email address, but i can't read that quick.
why and how to get it done all?

In the menu click more, then expunge.

furthermore, my inbox shows still 22 mails. if I go into the inbox, only 2 are visible. so email has still a couple of errors.

I think I had originally given Franky the suggestion, but I (stupidly) deleted that post. Can you describe what's not working for you, and Franky and I perhaps can try to remember the solution

1. When I delete email in my email client (using delete) the email is not deleted at all, it is deleted in the inbox on the edge but not in the inbox on my pc or phone. When I refresh the email client the inbox is clean but not the inbox counter at the top (says I have several unread e-mail, although I have deleted them on the Edge).

Hmm. #1 is usually because of the setting that controls if the email client should delete the message on the server when you delete it on your eDGe. Go into your email account where you have the email list and press "Menu", then tap "More" and "Account Settings". In the list you'll see a "When I delete a message". Tap it and pick "Delete from server" to get rid of it on the server (then press the "Back" button to get back to your emails). Once the message is deleted on the server, your PC or phone won't show it anymore, assuming they're showing what's on the server and not what was previously downloaded to them.

Now, it could also be because the messages are in the "Trash", so you can try emptying the trash.

For the K9 errors, download the new update ("Dingo") which has just been released and see if that helps. Otherwise, you can contact enTourage tech support and they may be able to help you figure out why you're getting those errors.

right, after Dingo.. did anything change? nada... if i receive mail, he still doesn't delete it from the server. i did choose that options, but it doesn't work. if i delete mail, it goes to trash. if i delete trash, it only deletes 15 mail and those are counted as a k9-error. if i delete the k9-error, it's directly back as a k9-error.
very spooky... but, under the line mail is working.

another problem has noting to do with mail, but i encountered this when i was trying to write this reply. i did this from my eDGe and halfway i switched quickly to mail and back. in this short time i was logged out of the forum. so all writing gone and i had to start all over again. that's serious irritating.

Right, I'm just came back from a long talk with my shrink.

I deleted yesterday all my mail from the server, since I've got the option "delete from server after download" . Guess what.... all my mail from my eDGe disappeared to....

fantastic... settings on my eDGe are indeed not working....
