Just got the edge today..... frustrated... help...

Hi..

I just got my edge today.. Im playing with it now;

I have questions..

- I dont know if it is a defect or sth.. a few lines of the screen picture go uneven
- How do i know my edge is up to date? and where to download the latest version?

And why I dont see annotation icon on the screen when i open a pdf file?

If you are referring to an uneven line in the LCD when viewed in landscape mode, especially noticeable when the keyboard is open, several of us have that issue.
You can find the version in settings, if you don' have Dingo refer to the information here to learn about updating.
To annotate a PDF it must be in your library first.

Regarding the update, if you press the "Menu" bezel button, then "Settings" then "About", the build version (at the bottom of the list) should show DINGO-1.1. If not, follow the instructions in http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...blems-Updating to get the update (listed under "Problem 1").

With Dingo, you won't see an "Annotate" icon on the screen. Instead, use the Menu at the bottom of the eInk screen and go to "Tool" - "Annotate". As Cheyenne points out, a PDF has to be Added to the Library to accept annotations (viewing a PDF on the eInk side doesn't in itself require it to be in the Library).

Is there a reason for the pdf's to be in the library? They can be read when not in the library, but not be annotated. I don't understand why. I don't mean any technical reason, but I don't get the idea behind it.

I think the reason is that a file which is in the Library is in a protected storage area so that the user cannot delete/move it without the Library's knowledge. This allows the Library to keep the annotations, which I believe are stored separately from the PDF/ebook, properly associated with the ebook/PDF.

Thanks so much everyone... Here are my other problems

First, it took me like forever to figure out how to install the update Dingo, alright i got it on now finally
Then it had been like overnight the edge with the AC cable on, so i unplugged the AC cable, guess what? everything went blank, so i hurried and plugged it back in again, then the red light kept blinking.. (ok, now it looks stable) and I went to check the battery status, it said 255%.. how come??

Second, zooming was fine before I installed the Dingo update; i could see the zooming icon on the screen and it was working great, though no custom settings. NOW it wasnt there anymore with Dingo, only the zooming button which doesnt do much, only with 3 hits??... I have a lot of pdf picture files and pdf lecture slides from school, I got the edge just for that reading purpose with this great ability... and now.. HELP!!!

Oh, my school wi-fi needs all mobile devices to get first registered their mac address before they can access free wi fi, pls tell where I can find it on my edge?

Remove your battery and pop it back in firmly. It could be it was not firmly installed. Also, did you remove the plastic sheet that protected the battery during shipment?

For zooming, you have to use the menu at the bottom of the eInk screen.

For the MAC address, press the "Menu" button, "Settings", "About", "Status". There you'll see "Wi-Fi MAC address".

There is also an annotate icon on the top menu as a shortcut (it toggles on and off). It's the lined page with pencil. Just beware that it is linked to the text selection tool when annotate is chosen from that menu, if you've selected another tool and toggle out of annotate mode the tool changes back to the text tool.

Hi Borisb,, thanks for your prompt response.. i was silly myself; i didnt pull that strip out. I got the MAC.. It wasnt there when i turned the wi fi off..

ZOOMING.. the below zoom icons in the menu are grayed out for some reason and it is so even when i open other books for testing purpose..
What would be the cause?

Did you recalibrate you eink side after you installed the update? For some reason this seemed to help a myriad of other problems, it might work with this as well. Good luck!

I'm not sure why the zoom icons would be grayed out. You should always have a Zoom In or Zoom Out option. Try pressing the Zoom button on the bezel instead.

Hi ,, the zoom menus at the bottom of the page are grayed out, it seems like my pdf book is at its max zooming.. i dont know.. while the text looks so small. I keep pressing the menus and the button, nothing changes... what you think?

The zoom menus at the bottom are grayed out when you are in annotate mode. Be sure to uncheck annotate first.
