A question about the 950
Can you only purchase books from the sony store when you go online (like the kindle with amazon)? Just curious, they don't even have this model here in the UK.

The question is: Can you cruise another bookstore via wifi and download via wifi? When using wifi you can go to other shops, when using 3G it is Sony only, AFAIK. Last edited by Poppaea; 05-02-2011 at 12:14 PM. |

The parent note makes no mention of wifi thereby opening the possibility he might be asking about a wired connection also...thus my electing to offer a courteous response. |

It should be noted that you cannot download from other sources using the 950's Wifi or 3G. You can only view the webpages.

Also you can download Google free public domain books through the Sony Store using Wi-fi (not 3G).

Okay thanks
I was just thinking though if Sony had made this decision to let you download from whoever you want they would have an obvious thing to market with unlike amazon. Saying, see, you can download the books from whoever you want, you have a choice. Wishful thinking obviously, but I can always dream that a big company would give us that gift.

Well, I can understand why they only want you to download books from their store since they aren't charging you directly for the data transfer. Sony also limits the size of book downloads from their store over 3G to something < 10MB. Amazon allows Kindles to download books from websites like feedbooks, Project Gutenberg, etc. B&N allows the NOOKcolor browser to do downloads as well. It would be a nice gift if Sony allowed this feature too.
