				Buying 2nd hand Nook

I have the opportunity to buy a 2nd hand nook at a very reasonable price. But I am based in New Zealand and we have no B&N presence here. I have read lots about the problems people experience with setting up nooks from outside the US and I'm not sure whether I should take a risk. My questions are:

	- can I use the device without authorising it/linking it to an account at B&N? - can I solely use it to sideload books via calibre and/or ADE? (I would have to authorise it via ADE of course and happy to do this). I have asked the seller but they have no clues (its on a auction site) which may possibly be their reason for selling (it is only 6 months old) Thanks all and Happy Easter from downunder |

			Happy Easter.

Can't help you with N classic. But with N Color, you can sideload epubs without a problem. I expect that N classic is the same way. If it's a good price, do it, there are bound to be ways to use it without tying it to B&N. |

Setting it up outside USA is no problem at all.

(I'm in Sweden. I do have a BN account. I don't remember having too much difficulty setting it up, but I have used a US friend's address as a shipping address. I can't buy books from a Swedish IP, but I can download freebies.) You can certainly use it with just sideloaded books! I have lent mine to a friend. Unregistered it from my account and sideloaded some books for her to read. I think it's a great device! |

Thanks osnova and asawi, the auction closes this afternoon so I'll hold off making my bid until the last minute.

Who knows, I may get a real bargain...then again, now that I have let everyone in NZ know that I'm interested, maybe they'll all start bidding

Good luck with the auction! I actually setup my nook with ADE before registering with B&N. I have a wifi model but I don't have wifi at home and I needed a wifi connection before registering my device. You really only need to register your device with B&N if you want to buy e-books or download freebies from their site.

It's good that you are not upset.

Nook Color also works as a pretty good Android tablet if you root it. |
