Sold it, back with K3

Just to thank everyone for all of their advice when I was deciding whether to buy a Nook Color and whether to jailbreak it.

Well I bought one, jailbroke it, returned it to stock OS and then sold it.

It just was not for me. The screen was fantastic. But, I just could not get used to reading from it instead of the black and white screen of my Kindle 3. Reading text in color was just not working for me. Whilst the glare is better than most LCD screens, obviously far more than with an e-ink device. It's that old chestnut again - some like the eink and some prefer the color of an LCD screen. I fell into the former.

What I do miss is the easier navigation of a touchscreen, particularly when reading books with many hyperlinked footnotes. The K3 certainly isn't good for that.

When I jailbroke it I found that many of my apps that I use on my iPod Touch were just not of the same quality or functionality on the Android platform. They'll probably come along, but it may take a long time, e.g. OliveTree, Laridian, Logos.

Anyway, I decided to get a good price for it while I could and wait until.... not sure what... NookColor 2, a 5 or 7 inch iPad.... hell to freeze over.

Anyway, just wanted to update and say thanks.

Hal.

I sold my NC and missed it so much, I bought another. I have K3 and it's only a month or two old and the button labels are worn off already, so I must remember what they used to say. I guess I will give the K3 to my kids and they can deal with the stupid buttons. Can you still read your buttons?

I too have both, K3 (since August 2010) and NC (for a month now).
No problem with the keys wearing off on my K3, and it is used daily. I heard the wearing off is a reason to call CS and just get a new one.
I love the NC for watching movies and TV shows. Reading sucks on it, K3 is WAY better.

Prince - If you like the touch screen why didn't you go with a Sony rather than a Kindle?

I already had the K3. Agreed that the Sony would have been great. Two problems: it would have been added expense, but secondly the Kindle enables highlights to be sent to a clippings file either on the K3 or on the web. The quotes can then be cut out and put into Word or other apps, eg z database app or notes organizer.

The NC and Sony's do not do that. Well the Sony does 100 characters a time, and the NookStudy PC app does it for certain books. The kindle does it for all books that I an aware of.

No problems with the button text in the K3.

actually in a llittle bit of a roud about way you can with the nook color. You can share highlighted passages via Facebook, twitter or email. You could export your passage to your email address and then you can do what you want with is from there.
