Mobi book on Kindle 3.0.2?

Hi all, happy new year

I have recently purchased a Kindle 3.0.2 3G version. I am a languages student and was hoping to use the kindle to read German language texts and be able to check a German-English dictionary while doing so. Unable to fins any German-English Kindle Default Dictionary in the Kindle Store, I found one on the Mobipocket website. I had read somewhere that dictionaries bought from this site would work as Kindle default dictionaries and that removing the DRM, which was necessary to use said books on a kindle, was relatively easy.

However, having downloaded the required scripts to remove said DRM, I came across the problem that the script offered to generate the Kindle PID number did not work with my Kindle's serial number. Why would this be? Is it because the serial number format is different.

If anyone could help me out here I would be eternally grateful, the difficulty in getting a German-Language dictionary, then paying money for one only for it not to work, has caused me great annoyance!

Thanks for your time,

Jonathan

Please don't ask for help with removing DRM. It's against our site policy.

Thanks.

You do realize that half the posts on this forum are about removing DRM...?

We permit the discussion of DRM, but not providing (or asking for) detailing help with the mechanics of DRM removal.

I think if you read over the actual script, you may find that the "serial number" lookup is based on older k-types and does not include the b00x where X is the k3 newer numbers.

Not all MobiPocket dictionaries work on the Kindle, but some do so it is worth a try. To remove the DRM from a MobiPocket ebook you need to use a PID that is encoded inside the ebook. This cannot be your Kindle PID, and it is likely the PID of your Desktop Windows MobiPocket Reader.
