Daily Reader battery question

Could use any help or suggestions with the following:

I have had the Sony Daily Reader for about 9 months and noticed the battery runs down awful fast and want to know if that is normal for this reader or not. This morning I charged it until the red light went out. Showed full battery. Turned it on 1/2 hour later and battery was down one bar. I also put it to sleep whenever I am not reading for a short time. I never have it on for more than a couple of hours.

Also have been having it get stuck when turning a page every now and then. It sometimes takes 10-30 seconds before it goes to next page when using the buttons at the bottom of the reader. Is this normal?

Thanks.

Totally NOT normal...not even if you have your WiFi on with no WiFi connection!

I recommend you call Sony Support.

I agree. Totally not normal. Maybe you just need a new battery? You've had the Daily Edition for 9 months so I assume that means you have model PRS-900. I used to get on about a week of battery life on my 900 with wireless on and even longer with wireless off.

1. First, I would make sure that wireless is off and see if that helps. It definitely drains battery if wireless is on but it can't make a good connection and keeps searching.
2. Also, I would check to make sure that I don't have any music tracks accidentally playing in the background (i.e. you should not see music notes in the status bar by the battery bars).
3. Have you tried a reset yet?
4. The 900 has a replaceable battery. I would follow the instructions in the user manual (see Page 16) to remove and reinsert the battery just to make sure it is properly installed and getting a good connection.

If none of that helps, then I recommend Sony support too.

I had the same problem. I was in a rush and did not want to return the device, so I bought a replacement unit. That fixed it.

But I also noticed, even with the replacement battery, that the reading is often incorrect. At times, the battery level will drop pretty fast - if I shut down (true shut down, not sleep mode) the device and turn it back on, the battery life goes back to full.

Happens both with the 900 and the 950 I now have.

So I think there are at least two separate problems there. One, some batteries are clearly defective. Two, even if you have a good battery, sometimes the battery level indicator is inaccurate.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to call Sony support today and see what they have to say since I have a their warranty and a replacement plan through Best Buy.
