ade template?
I have an annoying problem with some of my epubs in that a page truncates with many blank lines for no apparent reason. I thought that perhaps using the ADE template might help, so I looked at 'Three Men and in a Boat' by Jerome K. Jerome. He uses a second style sheet, named 'page-template.xpgt' with the ADE inside it. When I try to rename a second style sheet in Sigil .3, it notifies me that I can't use this name; apparently it must be a .css filename for Sigil(?).
If I can't follow JkJ example, how do I incorporate the ADE into my epub using Sigil, including how to reference it throughout the rest of the epub files? (and will the template help eliminating the partially blank pages in my epub? |

Well, I experimented and found that I could create an .xpgt file with my html editor and name it as 'page-template.xpgt' and add it as an existing rather than new style sheet, and Sigil accepts that fine.
The problem is that doing this still doesn't eliminate the occasional partly blank pages shown on my ereader (Sony PRS=950). There is nothing at the places where the unwanted page breaks occur that is different from all the other text paragraphs that work fine and fill all the page space. Why should the page breaks occur? |

bobcdy: Can you give us an example? 'Cuz otherwise we're nailing Jello to the wall here. I use ADE xpgt templates, by the way, without problem...I needed to add that as a second stylesheet because a lot of my clients view their review epubs with ADE. {shrug}.

Otherwise, everytime I find a large blank space at the bottom of the page it's always been because there is a intentional space or pagebreak, or because the widows/orphans control kicks in, or because there is an image or block afterwards... |

Hitch, Jellby. I got the ade template to work as shown by the inserting of 8em at the top of new chapters, but that didn't help the page break problem.
I think the problem is as Jellby suggested - extra long paragraphs. The problem spots that I've noticed are those followed by paragraphs that fill at least three screens of my 7" Sony reader. I don't suppose there's a fix except for splitting these paragraphs, but I think splitting might cause more reading problems than simply leaving them alone. I'll experiment a bit to see if long paragraph is the cause. |

The only time I've found blank pages is when the last paragraph of the XML file ends at the very bottom of the screen. Then I get the next page as a blank page.
As for page-template.xpgt, get rid of it. You do not need it. Not at all. Nope, no way no how. It's just a nuisance. All I do when I find it is to delete it. You can set the margins in the CSS just as well. In fact easier. |

I've used it to work around some bugs in ADE (and the Adobe engine in general). I keep the CSS as it should be and introduce the work-arounds in the xpgt, which is only read by ADE, a sort of conditional CSS.

I have found that the page breaks at odd places usually occur if the file is too big. Typically my fix is to break the file at a chapter boundary into a separate file. That fixes it.
