B&N books in Canada

I have been buying B&N NOOKbooks for my Nook for months with no problems. I use a U.S. address for my billing and shipping. Yesterday I downloaded about 6 free NOOKbooks. I downloaded the kids ones via my computer and a couple via my Nook. When I actually went to download them to my Nook I get this message:

Now I first thought it was because B&N finally stated to go by your ip address. So today I used a ip proxy (I checked to make sure it was working and it said I was from Texas) and tried to download the books, but they still have the same message.

I use a throw away credit card for my B&N account and I know I need to put more money on it. Could this have anything to do with it even though they are free books?

Is anybody else having any problems downloading books from Canada?

You can't download if your credit card is max-ed out. B&N does a $1 pre-authorization against the card to be sure that it's still valid before using the card number in its DRM system. It's just a pre-authorization, so no money changes hands, but the card needs to be able to take it.

Oh, ok thank you! I will just put my regular card up until I get another throw away one. I would think there was something on there, but I guess not.

I heard you can use B&N gift cards instead, can you buy them online and use them instead of a credit card?

You can use a gift card to pay, but there must still be a usable default credit card so that its card number can be used by B&N's DRM system when you download the e-book.

Thanks! I don't like keeping my card number online. I know it doesn't show it all, but it still bothers me.

So that only worked for 2 out of 6 books. Somebody else just posted a problem with buying books outside of the U.S. as well. I ended up getting one from amazon and stripping the drm.
