I'm going to buy my daughters ereaders for Christmas. I'm receiving one as well. My question is this: My oldest daughter is severly dsylexic and I like the fact that the Kindle will read aloud to her as long as it's written in English. However, since we homeschool, I need to be able to access the library and their e-books. Someone told me I can use Calibre to convert it onto the Amazon but how is it done and is it a fairly painless procedure to do each time we need a new book on our ereader. Any advice would be appreciated. Do you know if any other ereader has the ability to read aloud to you and also can access the library e-books? I've researched so many of them I can't make sense of them all. HELP!

The Kindle does not support the library DRM scheme or file format. Most libraries only support protected ePub files.
There are ways around that, but I've not researched them and am probably not supposed to help do that here, even if I knew how. |

There are plenty of computer programs that do it, libraries also offer audio books too

Good to have your company, Crticket. Kindle and lending libraries are mutually exclusive. There are other devices that include a text-to-speech facility, but do bear in mind that not all publishers allow their titles to be text-to-speech enabled because they claim it will infringe their audio rights. Personally, I think that's an outrage. By definition, the facility means that the text has already been bought: text to speech is a great prompt for folks with a reading disability. Best wishes. Neil

The Pocketbook 602 and 902 have a text-to-speech feature, and do support library books as long as the library uses Adobe DRM which is most common.
