adding books - Calibre Not Responding

I was attempting to add some books I have bought. I am slow in adding books from Amazon to Calibre. Well I roughly added around 40 thousand (free books) from Amazon. Calibre added those but it is not responding. The bar is at 100% but it has been sitting like that for over 12 hours.
Should I wait and see if it will start responding or should I close the program and start again?

Yes and this is why I can never find anything I have bought that I want to read. My goal is to get my library organized.

I totally understand you. I'm doing it now with a partial approach for new freebies, but previous ones....

It took a long time for me not to jump at every freebie that sorta maybe appealed to me, but I don't add many of them to Calibre, *unless* they come around a second time and I think hey maybe I do really want to read that.

Good luck with your organization!

At this moment, when I get a freebie I add an entry in goodreads with a review that, later, I download to calibre with a plugin, so I have the info about the purchase for the next time I open the Kindle app and I download books.

Kill it, restore library from backup and add books in batches, a 1,000 books is my limit.

So I would split the 40,000 books into 40 directories, and then add the 40 directories via a command line script that did an incremental backup of the library between each batch.

BR I did not have to kill it. My computer ended up shutting down for lack of memory. But you have confused me at the command line script.

I have created a new folder to add the books. I am adding a few hundred at a time.

I added an extra library to Calibre for freebies. If I read a freebie and want to keep it (good read, good enough for me to want to try the next in series, etc.), it gets moved to the main Calibre library otherwise it stays in the freebies library for a quick lookup when a new freebie sounds familiar.
