View Authors

I used to have the left most column showing Authors by Alphabet ie all beginning with A, B etc. but somewhere along the updates this disappeared and I have no idea how to put that column back.

Try right-clicking on a column title (Title, Date, whatever), click on Show Column and select Author(s).

I think they want the Tag Browse (Alt+Shift+T)

Do not see a Authors as a selection under show column.
Not looking for Tags, I have that as a column.
My left most column was Authors listed alphabetically ie A and within A were all the authors beginning with the letter A etc. With this I could go into any author and see all the books by that author.

The Tag Browser (sidebar) is a catchall for many column types that includes Author, Publisher, series ...
It has the ability to be Partitioned (by letter).
Preferences: Look & Feel: Tag Browser (a tab)

The fact that Authors was NOT on the Show list, says it IS already shown

Thank all for your help, unfortunately I am still unable to show what I want and used to see but will keep trying..

When you use Alt-Shift-T (on Wndows), does a column appear similar to one in the attached image? When you click on the arrow beside Authors, it will show a list of all authors in the library.

My fault for assuming you had removed the Author column in the main window and not the Tag Browser window.
