Converting epub to lrf, the attached error occurs.

Try using default conversion settings.

I am running win 7 Pro.

If I send the epub to Calibre via the sendto menu (which I assume is a command line call) I get the error.

If I start calibre and then drag and drop the epub, then things work fine.

Does this make any sense?

I assume you have Preferences->Add Books setup to auto-convert the EPUB to LFR, I set that up and sent an EPUB. It did the convert to LRF, but when I view from the calibre GUI I get what you see in attachment,

But if I open the same LRF file in ebook-viewer via Windows Explorer Open With then its fine - I don't see the Laying Out progress bar, and it displays in my 'default' size for the viewer which is bigger than what you see in the attachment.

When I dropped the EPUB on the booklist, the auto-convert was NOT done! But when I did the convert manually using default settings I could then read the LRF from the GUI

BTW I add 1-20 books a day via Send To, never have a problem. But I don't ordinarily do a conversion when I add, except ZIP to CBZ for photo albums, but that's a bit different.

I dont see why sending to calibre should make any difference, and given that LRF is a dead format, I dont want to spend more time tracking down such an obscure bug. Use the workaround of converting after adding instead.

The good DoctorOhh threw/bowled me a curve ball/googly - see Error Interpertation

As a consequence I unchecked LRF in the Use internal viewer for list, and I changed the Windows association from ebook_viewer.exe to lrfviewer.exe.

Then I tried to repeat the scenario where I got the Attribute Error - but I didn't get the error. But maybe that's because I hit the Use Defaults when I did a manual conversion.

I think this is caused by the change to random dict ordering. Somewhere in the LRF output code is something that depends on the order of dict keys. That means that some fraction of converts will fail randomly. Unfortunately, since I didn't write the LRF output code, debugging this is way more effort than is worth it for a format that is no longer used.

For a fomat no longer used, a lot of downloads occur.

Stop uploading LRF files, and they will stop being downloaded. In any case, if you think LRF is so important, you are welcome to contribute a patch to fix it.

BTW, if Calibre did not convert to LRF it couldn't be a problem.
