Out of date editions

Has anyone else had a problem with Kindle editions that are less current than the paper editions of the same book?

Last night I purchased a copy of Marcus Tanner's history of Croatia from the Kindle store, and was alarmed to see that the Kindle version was from the second, 1997, editon rather than the new 2010 third edition. I suppose it was my fault--it was clearly labeled as the second edition, and I even downloaded the sample to see if the maps were readable (they were). But I think it's a bad practice to link to an out-of-date Kindle edition in the "formats" box--it's not just a different format, it's a different book!

I've queried Amazon, and I don't doubt that they'll cancel the purchase.

Up until now, I've considered the hazard of unwittingly getting old editions to be more of a problem with paper books, but I suppose as time passes there will be more and more difficulties of this kind. But if anyone has the resources and incentive to keep track of current editions, I would have thought that it would be Amazon.

actually I have discovered the same thing fairly often. Mostly in my reference books but also in fiction where it's not as big a deal really because for fiction I would rather have it than not and really the story "should" not change.

My prob has been references. But since I am not buying anymore unless I am still around when a large format reader is in my budget since reading them on the laptop is no fun and impossible for all intents and "porpoises" on a 6" reader.

Another pet peeve is the out of date Kindle edition is never discounted as a remaindered out of date DTB edition would be...publishers hide that naughty leetle secret.
