Can Calibre cause crashing problems on ereaders?

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anybody has known Caliber to cause ereaders to crash? I began using the software for the first time yesterday, to load books onto a brand new Cybook Opus. For the past five hours (i.e. from when I first switched it on) it's been refreshing the boot-up screen over and over again, and the computer won't recognise the device. I've had an Opus before and used drag+drop to import files with no problems at all, so naturally I'm a bit wary of using Caliber when I get my replacement Opus.

Is there any chance the software could cause this, or is the unit itself just faulty?

Thanks for your time!

First, you didn't say what version of calibre you're using.

Second, hundreds of thousands of folks use this software and I have never heard of calibre causing device problems. On occasion I have heard of individual books having code in them that caused devices to reboot.

That said, calibre is caching some info on the device now that it didn't use to do. I would ask this in Opus forums and find out if any of them have had a similar experience. That forum should also be able to help you reset your device.

If you come up with anything more while in other forums please bring that information back here.

Good Luck.
