Are you having problems with the add on Sony case?

After visiting Borders this afternoon and we went through their Brown cases. And from some of the information posted.

I am wondering now if Sony has a major problem with their add on cases...

The one I saw were off by varying degrees. I kept the one that had the least amount of of alingement. Have 30 days to take it back... And may try Frys tomorrow.

Also if you can post how tight or loose the Hub is with your reader.

Tnks!

I Sent Mine Back Today!!

I received my reader and a brown case yesterday. The case is being sent back today. I Couldn't get the reader to allign correctly with it. It seems that the snap connection is not lined-up correctly. Anyway, I think I almost squashed the guts out of the reader while trying to get this bloody thing to fit... I gave up and am sending it back... The cover that the unit comes with is fine...

Tnks for the report...

Both Frys and Compusa do not have the extra covers in yet.

To the 2 that had the brown case. Wondering if the rings also fit. The one I tried feels like the wrong specs on the ring dimensions also...

It took several minutes(and a lot of patience) to get my brown case lined up, but once it was in, it holds solid. The difference was about 5 degrees or less to the left, so the lower right corner of the Reader is just barely poking out when you look at it with the case closed.

The experience is definately not the same as putting on the stock case, but I do like the leather one better than the stock. I don't feel as bad about bending the flap all the way back.

My Brown leather case is misaligned. The lower left corner and upper right corner are about 1/16" from the upper and lower edges of the cover. The lower right side of the reader is even with the back.

The hub is very tight, and is a concern given the amount of pressure it takes to mount the cover. I'm definitely a candidate for a higher end, well fitting cover.

Thats adds to something I found out. Its not a defined off but varies.

And the clip feels out of spect. The stock case feels much better clicking on.

If Sony keeps producing off clipped cases will keep the best and file it to fit.

I like the leather one also but for 40 and does not fits is a bit much.

Tnks for all of your comments.

Leather Cover Fix

I had the same problem when I got the leather cover... the connector being off by several degrees. I was going to send it back then said to heck with it and hacked it.

Just take a small knife or razor and trim the openings slots in the connector on the cover a wee bit till you can attach the reader and rotate it to the right position. It will still connect firmly it just is free to rotate slightly, depending on how much you trim.

Then just take a couple pieces of tape rolled up and stick one high and one low to keep the reader from rotating. Had mine this way for a month now with no problem whatsoever.

And even though I did like the stock cover... I like the leather one better. It has a better feel to it.

Just got around to putting on the leather cover I bought with the reader (brown) and it works fine. Putting it on is scary with how hard you have to press, even with the reader laying flat on a table, but it went on okay, magnets are fine, and the alignment is good.

I finally gave the cover a try fully expecting it to not fit right. My expectations where met. It is off by a good amount. The cover sticks out on one end and does not cover it enough on the other. Too bad they sell these in those stupid blister packs that you can't open easily. I would have prefered to bring my reader in and try them until one works. I may do that anyway but the store may end up with a pile to send back.

I exchanged the case at Borders today but they gave me a hard time saying that Sony does not want these being returned to the stores. They did it when I indicated that I had asked about returnability when I bought it knowing the potential for getting a faulty product. The second case is better but still not perfect. I wonder if any of these things really fit. I suspect that those that said it does are just less picky than those of us who say it does not. It does close fine so I'm going to keep it. I hope someone like vajacases comes out with a higher quality product though.

Have come to the conclusion they have a major problem with who ever is the subcontractor of the case's.

When I go into stors that have visited for cases I keep getting before I say anything of Nop. No news ones in. Hope that is a good sign.

We have three Sony Readers, and three cases (one of each color).

The first green case we bought had the magnets installed backwards. Yes, really. So it could not be closed, since the magnets repelled each other in that configuration.

We sent it back and bought one at a Borders, and it was fine. The brown case we bought was perfect. The red one is very slightly askew, such that the top and bottom of the case are slightly off with respect to the body of the PRS unit. It is minor enough not to bother me at all, but I can see that if it were only slightly more askew it would be a big problem.

I've just got a brown case (thanks to "anorak"!) and it's slightly - perhaps 5 degrees - askew. It still completely "covers" the Reader, so I'm not bothered, but you have to wonder why they can't line the connectors up correctly. There doesn't seem to be any issue with the standard vinyl cover. I wonder if, perhaps, the vinyl covers are machine made, but the fastener is put on my hand on the leather covers?

I think that's the cause. I have a brown leather cover that is very close to aligned. The back cover matches well, and the top cover is 1/16" off at the bottom. I attribute that to the bow they form into the cover to keep it off the screen and buttons. Plus, the magnet's not exactly at the corner. The vinyl one aligns perfectly.

I picked up a red leather case this weekend at Sony Style in Cincinnati. Count me under "this case is crooked". It kind of sucks, it's otherwise a pretty nice cover, but the Reader is not even with the case, it is probably off about 15 degrees with the right side dipping down. You can look at the plastic hub in the leather and tell by eye that it is not lined up properly. I agree with the idea that they are probably hand made, but I'm no engineer and I can think up at least four or five ways off the top of my head to make sure they line up properly by hand so that's not really a good excuse.

I want to return it, but the Sony store is over a hundred miles from me and I won't be back up there for about two months, and they have a 30 day return policy. So not sure what I'm going to do yet.
