Has the changeover happened yet?

Some people were saying prices were up already earlier today. But there are still books on my Kobo list priced well over $15 and one of the books on my Kobo list is showing a price of $11.19 Canadian while it is over at Fictionwise for $13.95 for non-members ($11.86 for members). So clearly, not everything is standardized yet. I am just curious to hear reports from anybody on whether anything on their wish lists has gone up yet---or down. I am really hoping that some of the $20 ebooks come down as a result of this change and I am very curious to hear any evidence.

If it's on your FW list, then it is not by an affected publisher.

Ah, good point. So how can we tell when it's happened? I am eying the $18 item on my Kobo wish list and hoping it goes down. The publishers promised to play fair with us after the switch and if they do not, and if they do not lower the prices for older books as they said, that will be a huge credibility issue for customers.

The publishers changing to the agency model made that claim. Anybody staying with the old model, like Random House, will probably continue their pricing the same as before.

I noticed that a book I had bought a few days ago from Amazon, Souless, is now geographically restricted in the United States. I don't understand this at all - I already have the book, the second one is due out any day now, but now no one in the US can buy the first one? Huh? I enjoyed the book and am glad I grabbed it when I could.

Makes one one to resort to piracy just from sheer contrariness. What an insane scheme.

All Robert Jordan and L E Modesitt books have come down in price today at Sony.
They did at Kobo also although they don't have as many books.

The same is happening at Amazon (US). I scanned their NYT bestsellers looking for any changes and noticed that the popular Outliers has had the pricing info removed and now indicates it is not available in the U.S. Huh? There are others in this group as well.

As Kobo point out, it's going to affect more than that, since being unable to discount some books has a major negative impact on their ability to run promotions generally.

I'm sure they will figure out how to give discounts on all the other publisher's eBooks.

Kobo said on their blog that they're not interested in doing that.

We could still do it for non-agency titles, but then we end up in a weird situation of “Get $1 off, but only on these books, and definitely not on these other ones.” That’s not fun. And worse, it’s confusing to consumers.

Sony mentioned that for a few days some titles would be unavailable due to the change, but would come back. Maybe that's what is happening?

Well, I hope Kobo doesn't stop doing discounts. That would hurt eBooks big time.

Teleread is reporting that Amazon reached an agreement with Hatchett late last night but will not make the changeover to agency pricing until 4/3 which seems to be their go-live date for Agency pricing for a couple of other Pubs.

Hatchett had the option of granting a two day extension of the old contract or just not selling thru Amazon for the next two days.
