New and Confused; in the Netherlands

Hello everyone!

I'd been eyeing the Bebook for a while but didn't have the money to spend on it... that is, untill I recently received refund on my utilities payments!
I decided that I'm allowed to spend a little of it on something unnecessary but fun for myself!

But, before placing my order for a Bebook, I figured I'd best do a little research to see if something else might fit my wants and needs better and I happened upon this forum... what an awesome place and at the same time, what a horrible place! I had no idea there were so many other brands of e-readers out there and now I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of the choices

So, I think I'll put off on ordering one a little longer and dig through the posts on here first, try to decide which one fits best.

Oh, and a few words about me personally....
I'm a 33 year old Dutchie, a technical nitwit but a bookworm pure sang. I'm about to start a trainingscourse at work and I signed up for a distance learning (Open University) course in my own time aswell.
I've been thinking about buying a e-reader because I spend my weekdays at work/class/home and my weekends at my boyfriends and most of the commuting back and forth is done by motorcycle. It would be nice to be able to take pleasure-reading, course literature and handouts with me without having to pack piles of books.

So, for now, off I go to read up on all of the threads here to see what I can come up with!

sincerely,
Karen.

PS: thanks and big kuddo's to all of you who have put in time and effort to gather so much information into one place! It makes the reseach so much easier for total newbies like myself!

Welcome, Karen. The information can be a bit overwhelming. Check out the Which on should I buy? forum. I have a Sony PRS-505 and I absolutely love that I can carry thousands of books with me everywhere I go.

What do you like to read? There are lots of great books available here. They are beautifully formatted and free!

Hi Superlucky and thank you

I read just about anything i can get my hands on apart from what we call "doctor's novels", you know: the overly romantic "he put my his hands on my heaving bussom" harlequin books

Right now I'm on a fantasy-high but that might change as soon as someone gives/recommends something else to me.
I just discovered the free books on here: awesome!! I'll definitely be browsing them and downloading them once I have a device to read them on

I've been reading some of the threads in the "which one should I buy" section and I've found a wealth of information there; including a lot of terms I'm not familiar with so I'll be reading up on those aswell.
Your Sony PRS 505 gets mentioned a LOT so it'll definitely be one I'm going to read up on.
Can I (keeping in mind that I'm in Europe) download and use all features even if I don't use a Sony shop? I notice it has the option of making folders to sort your reading in, that seems like a nice feature to have!
Anyway, when I've narrowed down my choices a bit, I'll post in that other forum again and ask for options and keep this post on topic by simply saying "hello"

/Karen.

You can use all the features (so far as I know). Ebook prices are for the most part kind of stupid (there are multiple threads on that) outside the Sony and Amazon stores. There are plenty of other places to buy books (also other threads). I use ebookprice, which is still being worked on and by no means perfect, as a tool to help find the best price.

Ask lots of questions. There are tons of gurus around here .
