Dante's Internet. (A silly idea...)
Here's a slightly goofy idea-
I was thinking of doing a sort of (very short) spoof version of Dante's Inferno. Except instead of the Infernos of hell, the journey would be through the circles of Internet. I can't decide whether or not this would simply be too silly to hold, but I think might do it anyway. Here's the first section- anyone who enjoyed it enough to read more, let me know and I shall be assured in the direction of continuation. Oh, and this is just something I spent ten minutes or so on, so please don't be expected actual Dante-level stuff, which I'm probably not capable of. Also, if any of you poets out there have appropriate net-themed verses of your own, I'd love to include them. Prelude. Tick Tock The tick and tock The clock It sings And never stops Tick Tock The tick and tock It’s four and morning And I need to stop But the click The click My fingered mouse I sit in the dark Fleeing my house Into screens of black And blue and green A hundred tabs And a thousand scenes Video spam And Hollywood Hams Fat chicks scream Over the Internet stream Wikipedia tabs And pornographic abs Television tropes And blog-broadcast mopes There’s an ocean of facts And my eyes’ cataracts Are growing in size My body cries For a little sleep My bed is no further Than two or three feet But slumber brings terror And dark memories So I’ll stay by the web, Dipping nachos in cheese Wait, what’s that sound? -From all around- A tinkle and a twinkle And a sprinkle of flame After this my life Will never be the same Out from my browser The face of a fox With fur all ablaze And eyes filled with craze The sprite speaks And his voice, it creaks Like bending steal His paw tosses a ball Colour tinted teal His grin’s forever yellow And his lips never meet And he says, “Now, you’re not asleep -this is quite real- And the Internet’s waiting To give you a treat There’s a quest and a test That to live you must best So let’s not delay And in case you were wondering, You get no say.” So the Fox takes my hand And there’s the sound of a band And before I know it I’ve been transported To Internet-Land. . ![]() (Just to be clear, I have zero art skills, but the thread looks a little dry without illustration. 'Twas this or stick men.) The Gate The void is white From end to end Above me, gigantic Letters extend The Fire Fox sits Just by my side Its grin is sharp And ever-so snide “Just shout out some words A thought or a sin And the great Gate shall open For you to dive in.” I plead with the Fox -I’d like to go home The Fox rolls its eyes “Oh, throw me a bone.” “Just play along, For somebody’s sake Think of some words To feed the Google Gate.” Still, I can’t speak And the Fox judges me weak For I could never Think on my feet “Tell you what,” it says, “I’ll start you off,” And its smile becomes cruel, as it starts to scoff “Let’s begin with something ripped from your life Like the triple-barrelled name Of your dear, departed wife.” . ![]() I was listening to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtWasI8CpQ8 - Amon Tobin - Proper Hoodidge when I came across your post. Somehow it worked so seamlessly as a soundtrack. |

(Thanks, guys. And Ea, that soundtrack was commendably creepy).
The tubes.
The tubes are tiny And flowing with flood -information bottled Up like blood Ones and zeroes Tumbling thick Connections sizzle And the walls all twitch Terror kindles my grip So my hands don’t dare slip From the Fox’s tail As we blaze a trail Surfing this turf Of databound goo Upon his gleaming Ball of blue We’re no longer at sea -the tube came to an end, We fell through a tunnel And round a bend Parting a door And clipping my jaw (ow) As we tumble onto A marble green floor The lights are astrobe There are weird costumes and robes We’ve fallen into A raver’s cove Glow-sticks Some Mohawks And punk-rockers too liquids all frothy -from booze to the sick- the bars tend to move and the patrons all slip from corner to corner wiggling their hips Except the glow-sticks are long tinted like spears And there are arrows and bows -Weapons to fear “Your wife liked to party With the crowds around here So let’s all stay calm, Just buy them a beer And open your ear You’ll find them quite friendly If a little bit queer.” There’s art on the walls And paint on the ground The loud music’s actually A beautiful sound Their deviants, you see And creative expression Is their particular deviancy. . |

![]() Patricia Amelia Julabeth-Ann Patricia Amelia Julabeth-Ann Known to me As dear Patty-Am With hair so fair (A bright blonde quilt) And skin like silk Flowing in milk With a ready smile And morals fast Needy at times But she made me laugh Then she went All away Gone Taken Lost But wait, She left fragments behind A canvas trail For me to find “Oh yes,” The artists’ say “She used to come here Every day.” She’d sit And paint And moan And debate Politics and sport Lifestyles to court The traces Of places That we’d never been The landscapes she wrought Only she’s seen Not once Not ever Did I see her draw Death throws open these works... I’m frankly in awe Sometimes the pictures Show familiar ground Self-portraits The lounge The merry-go round where we first met, A long time ago, Only- not so The images are twisted The edges all warped Like our life’s peeled away And just underneath Nightmares lie, fresh to be reaped And there are poems of rage And stories of days When the characters cry And inside they die But to the world passing by And all those therein They smile And they laugh And occasionally grin You lie, Little Dog To show me these things The artists are wrong, I refuse to go on Our life wasn’t bliss But I knew with each kiss My wife, she was happy So none of this. But... then again Some of us do Split our lives in two With half for them And half for you Strangers tread trails, that loved ones never find In paths Our painted secrets bind Patricaia Amelia Julabeth-Ann Better known As LonelyWife1051 * “Hey,” Fox says, mouth swilling with beer. “Looks like she’s got a blog, too.” Click click. . Interlude Mmmmmmmm, Why don’t you come and play? Sit and stay awhile Just follow me Why don’t you try a great big smile? My throne is gold My soul is sold And I’d love to say I’d have it Any other way But huff, My lips They do some betrayin’ My teeth peel open and I’m only sayin’ There ain’t no safer place than by my Godly side I just have To scratch that itch Send people home on a sitch’ Cut up their lives to entertain see, I’m the Lord of Tragedy The Fox presumes to cut through my riddles Something’s burnin’ It’ll Find the bridle And behind its back there’s a man in tow Oh, how he loved her so Pity they’ve got such lengths to go Before they come clean And reach End scene I’ve got a curtain held up and waitin’ Edges sanded sharp Good for breakin’ The stage ain’t set but I’m in no hurry Little Fox and Little Man Watch them scurry I ain’t mean per se But those boys, aren’t they Everso green? Is it a fault mine If they pass across My lifetime’s scheme? ![]() . |
