I'm not knowledgeable about this, but have read some articles that talk about how in general there is a limit to the power that you can draw from a usb hub. So, for example, if you have multiple usb ports on the back of your pc, they are probably on the same power quota. Whatever unpowered usb devices you have are drawing all their power via usb, and together they may be too much. I guess PPC devices take a lot?
Have you tried unplugging any other connected usb devices to see if the error still occurs? |

You don't say whether you are plugging the unit directly into your PC or into an external hub. If you are plugging into an external hub you might want to replace your hub with one that has its own power supply. They run about $20 to $30 and have a little transformer that plugs into the hub to power it, as opposed to the hub getting its power from the PC. I would suspect this will cure your problem.

The computer that I'm having this problem with is a laptop, Dell C840, running XP. I can activesync with my desktop pc and have no problems there, just having problems with the laptop. I read other people having this problem in different forums, though the posts there are quite old. One in particular is here , if you'd like to look. Only thing is that I'm having this problem only with the iPAQ and not with any other usb device. So it's highly possible that the device is just demanding too much energy.

edit: Probably the problem is that the ppc draws too much energy from the usb port. On the ppc, under settings-power-usb charging, there is an option box for fast charging or slow charging. Having changed to slow charging I don't have the power surge problem anymore! Makes sense. Thanks, Steve Last edited by Tissa; 01-22-2006 at 05:34 AM. Reason: More Info |
