Lightbulb Sony Book Store

I have spent too much time this weekend trying, and failing to get the Sony eBook Library installed and running under VirtualBox on my Ubuntu computer so I could consider buying a couple books for my PRs-505. That's a different thread, but what it is frustrating that Sony requires of extra software be installed to buy books from their ebook store. Their book store web site looks virtually identical to book store in the eBook Library software. Previous purchases and the ability to buy new books is all that's missing from their web site.

With so many other devices going to ePub, they could sell a lot more books if their store sold books via the web! The MR Device Wiki page lists 13 different readers that support ePub.

Come on Sony, sell ePub books via your web site to owners of any reader that can handle the format! Amazon can use the competition!

Have you actually been reading MR? If you have, you'd have found out that by the end of the year, Sony is going to be selling ePub instead of LRX.

First, let me apologize for ranting! I was very frustrated about not being able to get the Sony eBook Library software running. I wasn't thinking about Sony not selling ePub books yet when I wrote the post; I was thinking about the proprietary software to BUY their books. The point I was trying to make was Sony should let anyone buy books via the web, even if they don't own a Sony reader. The OS your computer runs would no longer matter. Being able to buy books via the web makes sense even now for LRX, and it seems like a no-brainer for ePub.

Again, I apologize for my tone and over site on my original post!

Have you contacted Sony support? They have a live chat.

The website is just an easy way to browse. You're basically accessing the website via the library software. Presumably you can't download straight from the website the same as you can't buy songs for the iPod on the Apple website.

While I agree that we should be able to buy/download books using the browser, I'm curious about your problem. You have Ubuntu and VirtualBox+Windows and you cannot make it work?
