Help! PRS-350 will not authorsise

Hi,

I am having a bit of a mare with my PRS-350. I registered it no problem with my old computer, and have been able to buy and read books without issue.
That computer recently died a slow death, and so last night I uploaded my ereader to my new computer and purchased three books from WH Smiths.
Unfortunately, I cannot transfer the books to my ereader, since my reader is authorised to my old computer.

When I tried to download the books from my old computer, I was unable to, since the books are authorised to my new computer. I also tried to deauthorise my old computer, but could not find the correct place to do so. On all the help pages it tells me to log into my account on the ebook store and deauthorise from there. But because I am in the UK, I don't appear to have an account with the Sony ebook store.

I have downloaded Adobe Digital editions and authorised both computers with it, but I still cannot download any new books.

If I reset the ereader completely, and remove the software from both old and new computers, will that deauthorise it and allow me to start again? I realise I will lose all my old data, but I only have a few books on there which I am happy to lose as long as I can read the new three that I paid £20 for!

Any suggestions??

I'm not sure why you want to deauthorize. You can have several computers authorized to the same account.
Install ADE (or Reader Library) on the new computer.
Authorize the new comuter to your ADE account
Connect device and authrize the device to new computer as well. (The reader can be authorized with mutliple computers)
Import your ePub files to your ADE (or RL) and drop them to the reader from within ADE.

Does WHSmith automatically create an AdobeID using your WHSmith email address and password?

If so, it sounds like you have created a new AdobeID on your new computer.

To access your original AdobeID, and your ebooks, you'll have to deauthorize your new computer and reauthorize it with your old AdobeID.

Doing a complete reset on the reader will not de-authorize it, only wipe your data and you'll have to set up your account again (lots of wifi fun on the 950!).

Removing all software on the new computer and reinstall it will help you clean out any account mishaps and confusion though, and when you have reinstalled you can make sure that only the old/correct account is logged in and running.

Hi
Being in the uk I realise that you cant access Sony but I have found that you cannot download books via ADE until you have downloaded the Sony Library. It doesnt matter whether you use the library or not. You should then be able to download an ASCM file which I save to a folder then I open ADE and drag the ASCM onto it and that downloads and puts a EPUB (if you bought epub) file into a folder called My Digital Editions
If that doesnt help perhaps you can tell us what messages you are getting when trying to download

This is exactly what I discovered when I replaced my PC with a new Windows 7 PC. I installed ADE and authorised the new computer with my existing Adobe ID but it wouldn't recognise/authorise my PRS650. After I installed Sony Library it was suddenly recognised by ADE and everything was sweet. You just have to remember when you install Sony Library not to allow it to associate ACSM files or it will take over from ADE when you purchase ebooks.

Can you contact Sony customer support in UK?

I had the same problem. But I had register the product online, and Sony customer support was able to pull up my info. They were able to deauthorize ADE on an old computer from their end and register a new ADE account for my new computer.
