SmartQ 7 U.S supplier (www.smartq7)

F.Y.I, for a reliable source for the SmartQ5 and SmartQ7 go to " www.smartq7.com ". They even have a demo video. With such a low price, I think this can be a great Ebook Reader!

It can only be a great eBook reader if it has the supported formats and it really doesn't.

Actually, it really does. It comes with FBReader, so it has pretty broad format support.

It is proving to be one of the best devices for the price right now, with support for multiple OS, and a growing following of users.

This is a US supplier? Do they actually keep them in stock or do they just take orders from the US and have them shipped from China?

I agree, except, I don't want it to have a linux OS...

What about battery life? I saw 48 hours of music playing, but nothing about battery life with the screen on. In comparrison, my iTouch is rated at 17 hours music. I have never been able to get more than 5 or 6 hours reading, even when the battery was new. I started reading eBooks on an original Eee PC with a 7 inch screen. It was a little bulky; about like reading a hardback book. The killer was battery life reading was 3-4 hours. I basically ended up reading with the thing plugged in most of the time. Battery life has been always a factor in every reader device I have bought since then. The jetBook is rated at 20-24 hours. That usually lasts me a week of reading, which is about the minimum battery life for a reader IMHO.

The times when I manage to read hours after each other can be counted on one hand. 3-4 hours is enough for me.

I was quoted $250 by the Chinese seller.

This is kinda what I was wondering about, Lanx. Nate said $250 directly from the Chinese supplier so there could be a savings. But the level of support the folks here are talking about getting from Eletroworld might be worth the extra money.

I sent the owners of the site an email asking if they had stock, on-hand, and what the level of support that could be expected from them might be. When I get a response I'll respond here.

Eletroworld is out of stock. I'm sort of curious to get one to play with, but a lot of people have been comparing these to the Nokia tablets.

I have a Nokia N810, and the entire thing is kind of a mess - it really doesn't work well. I have a broken N800 - I loved it while it worked, but it conked out quickly and Nokia would not support it. Some of my problems have to do with the newer implementation of Maemo on the N810 and some have to do with the hardware.

The Smart Q7 size would be better, but I'm very concerned that it would only be a hacking toy like the N810. I'm curious about the Viliv 7 but it is a lot more expensive.

Imobiledynamic.com, the site you reach through the link smartq7.com, got back to me very quickly. They said they will have smartq 7s in stock on 6/21 and that they have ordered in bulk. They also said they stay in close contact with their suppliers so any questions or issues can be addressed quickly.

Sounds good so far.

I may see if they are going to pass on the upgrades as quickly and thoroughly as Eletroworld. If so, I might go ahead and take a chance with this company. With the Q-munity growing here, I think I'd be ok anyway!

Got to do a little more research on these guys, and I'm thinking about being sorry for that last line above...

*snort* I found the US site too. According to ColdSun in the Smart Q7 review thread, if you order from eletroworld before June 20, you can get Win CE on it free. After June 20 you have to pay extra for it according to the site. I wonder what MobileDynamics will do about that?
