NewsFlash: LifeDrive Leaked by Laptop Magazine

According to Brighthand, there is a full-page article in Laptop magazine about the LifeDrive in advance of the formal announcement. Probably not good for them, but great for us. All the details are given here.

More to come I'm sure!

Ongoing update(s):
Here's the scoop...

-- Dimensions are 4.7" x 2.8" x 0.76"
-- Weight is 6.8 oz
-- Automatic hard drive sync
-- Will support USB2.0 for faster transfer of data
-- SD slot
-- HiRes+ 320x480 display, with landscape and portrait
-- Will come with NormSoft's Pocket Tunes, which works with Rhapsody streaming
-- Will come with Documents To Go
-- To be released May 18 for $499.99
-- Wifi & Bluetooth 1.1
-- 4 gig hard drive
-- PalmOS Garnet (OS5)
-- Camera companion (an application not a camera)
-- Web browser and email applications
-- RAM size unknown

It used to be the FCC that's the source of all 'leaked' infos, but it's been quiet on that front. The Lifedrive has dual wireless and no leak from the FCC!

Online forums are not really reliable because of the amount of hoaxes that have surfaced.

So now, it seems, print magazine is it. Before Apple debuts the Flat screen with a dome based imac, Time printed and posted about it a day early, now Laptop magazine do the same with Lifedrive, too bad, the article is not as extensive as we would have liked. Still, Lifedrive should be announced in a few days... so just a few more nights of sleep...

Just wondering whether Brighthand has violated any nda with those postings, surely, they would have a device for review (as they have with previous new Palm models)... Even PalmInfocenter is very selective these days on Lifedrive postings...

There you go, BobR, PalmOne is poised to bo back on top. I have to admit, I'm sorely tempted to get one of these wonder-machines, but now I'm addicted to my beloved Z2 form-factor (having become hooked on game emulation as a side effect of leaving the PalmOne camp.) It's hard to imagine my SNES with those awkward PalmOne buttons, even though the dual-wireless and 4GB hard drive are really mouth-watering...

Those dimensions cannot be right. There is no way this unit is 2.0" wide: the screen alone on my T3 is wider than that. How "real" is this report? Philippe Radley

Sorry about that, folks. The article notes that it is 2.8" wide. This means that it is the size of the T3 open, but twice as thick - for the battery, I assume. It's also somewhat heavier. Philippe Radley

Good catch Philippe. Transcription error. Will fix it above.

I think that the weight is probably due to both the battery and the hard drive. Hopefully partly as a result of solid construction also, but that's wishful thinking. I think most people will be glad for the extra battery life even if the weight is slightly more.

I agree, and the added thickness is probably similar to what heavy-duty batteries add to the PC models. Philippe Radley
