Several problems with Plugins Linux Mint
System:
Kernel: 6.8.0-85-generic arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 13.3.0 clocksource: tsc Desktop: Cinnamon v: 6.4.8 Distro: Linux Mint 22.2 Zara base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble Sigil v. 2.0.1. I changed from Windows 10 to Linux, but get several problems with Plugins in Sigil. The first: When I open the Plugin manager, the box of the integrated python interpreter is greyed out, so that I cannot check it. Can someone tell me what to do? And please note that I'm completely new to Linux! |

There is no integrated python plugin environment available for the standard Sigil provided by your distro's software repositories. You would need to install the various extra python modules that are necessary yourself.
Or.... just use the Linux AppImage we've been including with our latest Sigil releases. You get the very latest Sigil (2.6.2 currently) with a bundled Python plugin environment (the checkbox will be available). |

Thank you for the quick answer! I have already downloaded the appImage, but don't what to do with IT. When I tap on it, nothing at all happens. Sorry for this total newbie statement!
Ok, I got this one, and Epubcheck and LanguageToolQt seem to run without issues. Great! Last edited by Leonatus; 10-06-2025 at 10:36 AM. |

So, this is solved. Next problem:
When I run the ODTImport plugin, there opens a window to select the .odt file. It is strange, however, that I can only select from "Computer" or from "User". I seem to have no chance to select a file from the USB drive. Is there a setting to be changed? Ok. I got this solved as well: I have to select Computer/media/username, and then appears the USB drive. Not very comfortable, but works. So, that's all - for today. Thank you so far! Great! I even succeeded in implementing PageEdit.
But still one question: What should I do when a new Sigil version is published? Need I only remove the AppImage and replace it by the new one, or what is best? When I downloaded and opened the present one, like by a miracle, there were all my plugins I formerly had chosen integrated. |

Yes. You can just replace it with the new version. Your preferences, plugins (and plugin preferences) are stored separately. Just like with the regular version of Sigil.

There are various ways to integrate the AppImage into your Desktop as well (so that things like "Open With" will work with .epub files), but we'll save that for later. There are many different ways to accomplish that, so hopefully others will share their favorite methods.

Quote:
I created a directory (folder) for appimages. After download of the appimage and its checksum, I move them to that directory, right click on the appimage file in the Dolphin file manager app, select Properties, and in the next dialog, there is a tab to verify the checksum. Next, still in the file manager, and still in the Properties dialog there is a tab for Permissions where I make the appimage executable. Then, in the desktop app launcher, right-click on the Sigil entry and edit the name of the executable to the new version. After the first time, the path remains the same because I always place the new appimage in the same directory so only the name needs changing. Then a click on the Sigil logo in the desktop launcher and the new version opens ready to use. The whole operation takes a couple of minutes or less - similar to the download time.
