Question Transitioning Calibre from dmg-installed version to Homebrew-managed version?

In an effort to ease/automate the update process for Calibre on my Mac, I'm considering transitioning from the standard installation method of downloading the dmg and dragging the app to my Applications folder to using Homebrew to install and update Calibre. Would all I need to do is uninstall the current installation, install it again via Homebrew, and point the new version to my current library? Will my plug-ins and settings transition over? If not, is there anyway to make this transition go more smoothly?

As long as the major version of calibreis the same in the two there shouldnt be any issues but note that the homebrew version isnt official supported. And you can write a 5 line script to automate extracting the dmg using the hdiutil command.

Thank you. I'll look into more details on how to do this.

Basically (from memory) something like

Code:
hdiutil attach /path/to/dmg -mountpoint /path/to/some/directory
rm -rf /Applications/calibre.app
ditto -v /path/to/come/directory/calibre.app /Applications
hdiutil detach /path/to/some/directory
