Need help getting books into KOReader

Hey guys, KoReader help needed

I'm struggling to transfer EPUB books into KOReader on my Kindle PW11. I suspect it’s really simple - so simple that no one thinks it’s worth writing down. But having done my best to find help in previous threads across a few forums, I’m stumped.

Successes so far:
- Kindle is successfully jailbroken, running KUAL and KOReader. Can navigate the Quickstart doc in KOReader, and use the file browser.
- I have extracted a library of books from my Kindle account and converted them to EPUB using Calibre plugins. I can view the EPUB files in the Calibre viewer.

Honestly I expected those to be the difficult bits.

Where I’m stuck:
To transfer the EPUB files onto the device, the user guide doc of KOReader suggests “In addition to transferring files the same way you would with the built-in reader application, other options are available depending on your device:”

The ‘way I would with the built in reader application’ is to buy books on the Kindle store for wireless delivery. So that’s out.

I have tried two things so far with no success:
1 - USB connection to mac
2 - Calibre transfer over wifi

1 - issues with USB transfer
When KOReader is active, my mac does not recognise the kindle as a drive - it doesn’t appear in either Finder or Calibre

When KOReader is not active, kindle appears in Finder and Calibre. But Calibre sees it as a Kindle, and ‘Send to Device’ won’t transfer the EPUB files, only the original KFX format.

I don’t know where the EPUB files live, and Calibre website is full of warnings not to mess with the underlying files. I don’t know where it’s safe to put them on the Kindle file system, or how the kindle filesystem relates to the KOReader file system. I don’t know how to make sure metadata goes with them.

2 - issues with Calibre transfer over wifi
- Successfully started the wireless device connection service in Calibre.
- Successfully started the Calibre connection in KOReader.
- Prompted to choose a folder to receive the books.
- With no indication of what this means or what implications it has, select the current ‘Home’ folder.

Warning message “This folder is already initialised as an Amazon Kindle. Mixing calibre libraries is not recommended unless you know what you’re doing. Do you want to continue?”

I very much don’t know what I’m doing > Cancel

It seems bizarre to struggle so close to the finish line, having done all the hard bits! I’d love some help for the final mile.

Side notes:
The KOReader documentation on the File Browser has a lot of info on the UI and on creating collections, but no help understanding which folder to put books in.

It seems weird that there’s no more explicit guidance on how the KOReader file system is designed to be used, starting with where to put books as a default.

What does it mean that the Home folder is ‘already initialised as a Kindle’ - that seems like it might cause a problem and I can’t find anything in the KOReader guide about it.

Exit KOReader, then plug you kindle in to your pc.
Make a folder on your kindle (name it "books" or something).
Highlight all your books on Calibre, then click "save to disk" (Im not really sure how this works on mac, but you need to go to the "books" folder on your kindle and save them there.)
