Any problems registering older Oasis (9th generation)?

Hey All, I've got this Oasis bought in 2018. I'm about ready to deregister and register with Amazon since it looks like for whatever reason I cannot get the usb connection to work with any computer, so I will have to work with Send to Kindle. Don't really like that, but it's what I have. So I have to register the thing.

In reading up on registering kindle readers, I've read problems with people registering older models, but I don't really know how old. Can't update, too old, buy new one, etc. I was on chat and he actually disconnected when I told him for the third time IT WAS A GIFT. I did not buy it on my account, there is no order number. He just disconnected. No answers.

There is supposedly a slim chance I will be able to miraculously usb connect after deregistering (reformatting), but I'm certainly not counting on it. It sounds like a hardware problem to me, not operating system. If I actually do get usb connection, no registering with amazon, especially after this. It will be all side loading from calibre.

So before I lose the handful of books I haven't read yet, does anyone know if this oasis is old enough to cause problems, or am I good? Thanks for reading.

the only kindles old enough to not allow you to register an account are the first and second generation devices (because they don;t support wifi and 3G is being discontinued). ALL devices from 3rd gen to 12th gen are still able to connect to an Amazon account, provided they are not blacklisted, i.e lost or stolen.

Blacklist also includes warranty replacements when Amazon didn't want original back. They silently blacklist those ones reported faulty.

If you can, try a different usb cable. If your Oasis is able to charge but not transfer data it could be the cable you're using isn't meant for data or it's just gone bad.
I've registered a K3 1-2 yrs ago and it was a pain bc no one mentioned that you sign in with your regular username and password then you sign in again with a password Amazon sends you. I had to get CS to help as I had locked myself out of my account trying to register the kindle.

Since it's currently registered to your account, there will be no problem in unregistering it and re-registering it.

It's nowhere near old enough to cause a problem - some older Kindles needed an update to their security keys before they could be registered, I think. And the Kindle 1 and 2 didn't have wifi, and their 2G connections are not supported anymore. None of that applies to an Oasis.

Lovely model the Oasis. I recently got an Oasis 10th Gen with 4G. Second-hand, of course.

For any one hitting the same issue, here is the Amazon Support page on doing this.
