In the Calibre forum, we have two threads, first for template questions and later for general library management questions (the latter came into existence due to confused users posting them in the template thread). Let's see if it also works here.

I'll leave it up to the moderators whether this might worth stickying or not.

My problem is that the vocabulary and acronyms are keeping me from understanding. I have no idea what a template thread is for.

I’d also venture to guess that some of the tips and tricks either no longer work, have been implemented by Kobo or a newer mod (NickleMenu is going to be guilty for at least some of this), could now actually do harm to your kobo, or some combination of the above.

And it’s rather hard to cross reference if you’re new to Kobo devices.

I've tried to distill what is in this thread into the wiki page, annotated with which versions it works with, although the version info isn't complete.

Question: If I'm readig on landscape orientation and go back to the menu, it's still on portrait orientation. Is this anything to be done about this?

A lot of the menus don't support landscape. It's very annoying when it force switches.

But the menus that do support rotation frequently look stupid on the wrong aspect ratio screen. Oh well.
