kobo shop interface

Does anyone know how the following works on the website of the Kobo shop? It seems it has two interfaces when sorting search results.

The first, the older one, looks like this:

The second, a newer one, looks like this:

I much prefer the first. But I can't find out how to set the site so that it will only list my search results that way (i.e. with the possibity to sort by language by clicking on it in the column on the left hand, rather than clicking filter at the top in the second screenshot and having to select it there).

The site seems to switch randomly between the two, but with a marked predilection for the latter in the last few days.
Does anybody know what rules this? It's driving me nuts. (According to the law that the more trivial the annoyance, the larger it looms. :-)

It's even weirder than that. If in the screen of the first screenshot, where "david van reybrouck" is filled in in the search window, I click on the magnifying glass to reperform the search, I get this:

So, different search results, because the site has automagically decided I want to look only for English language books, not for "all languages" (previous screen). And different interface.
Why? Who designs this? And why? How does this work?

I have the same issue as you, and I find the new search window less accessible because the filter options are more difficult to open and change. Especially, if a book is available with the same name in different language (e.g., Yellowface) and the search result defaults to a random language.
