Kobo store ordering
I've just ordered an ereader from the Kobo store, and I'm wondering what to expect. I ordered a week ago, and received an "order received" email the day of the order containing a promise of another email when the order ships. And then I've heard nothing since in the seven days (yeah, only 4 business days) since.
I imagine (didn't check) that I could have bought it on Amazon, but I usually try to avoid giving Amazon any money, so I like the idea of buying direct. But now I'm wondering if that was a mistake. How is the Kobo store at order fulfillment? Should I assume that they haven't gotten around to shipping my order after a week, or should I think that they shipped it but neglected to send an email saying so? |

Back in the day, when I ordered our Formas, I went directly through Kobo. But, as you're finding, it took a long time to arrive (I'm assuming much of it was customs from Canada to the US). So, when I ordered my Sages, I bought online from Walmart. Those arrived within days. And, when I had to return the first one, I could just walk into that brick and mortar store and do it.
EDIT: I think that direct Kobo order took something like 19 days to arrive. I'll try to look something up to confirm/deny that. EDIT 2: 11 days. The packing slip for that order is dated the same as my order date. But, it took 11 days to get to me. Last edited by enuddleyarbl; 11-30-2023 at 02:15 PM. |

I've ordered from Kobo here in Ireland more than once (they shipped from Netherlands). Also used Amazon DE and Amazon UK. Used Argos once because cheaper and local.
Kobo do seem very slow. Netherlands and Ireland are both in EU, so no customs. I get stuff from Germany & Netherlands faster than from UK now, or in some cases UK suppliers can ship to USA, but have not figured out how to do EU since Brexit. Of course there is almost no customs delay with Amazon UK. All the big international corps know how to do paperwork, it's small UK companies and UK Supermarkets that can't figure it (M&S closed Paris store!). No empty shelves in Spar or Lidl in N.I (UK) or Ireland the way there was with M&S, Sainsburys (who are in N.I.) or Tesco. But Tesco was least bad. Sainsburys supermarkets bought Argos and when they decided to move them instore, they simply closed the Irish Argos, because unlike UK Tesco and UK M&S they have no stores here. We also have (Euro) Spar (just called Spar in UK), Aldi and Lidl. Oddly Tesco sold obsolete Kindles for a while. Aldi maybe sold an LCD ereader once. Last edited by Quoth; 11-30-2023 at 02:30 PM. |
