Kobo delete does not fully delete ?
I have been working on a book to improve chapterization.
What I do is use delete option on the actual kobo, to remove the book, then connect to pc and resend the need edit from calibre I observe that when I do that, the series info auto-appears for the resent books, without me having to do the connect , eject, connect, eject dance.to add series data. So clearly, the kobo retains it. Even after. Book is deleted on device. That is fine, it is actually helpful, it I wonder what else does not get deleted? I recall reading somewhere that kobo also copies each added book's toc to somewhere in its little database, which could explain why fixing how kepub headers work is so frustrating ( e.g. chapter title tag daa not always shown ) Is there a way to totally delete a book from kobo. Without having to use the sign out, sign back in drastic overkill. Is there ore info. Tried in other threads, about what is, is not deleted? |

I've always deleted from Calibre, not on the device. No issues with resending.

You don't really need to delete the book.
In the KoboTouch driver settings, there is an option to overwrite. "Do not treat replacements as new books" is the setting. |

i don't think deleting with calibre, or deleting with windows file explorer... makes any difference when the kobo restarts after a delete, the book is gone... but apparently the series info is still there in some look up file, so whan a replacement book ( same title, same author) is sent to device, the kobo is able to find and attach series info correctly, all by itself |

I'm not seeing series info preserved after removal and replacement, but I edit the version number in the title, so no doubt it looks like a new ebook.
Re: "Do not treat replacements as new books" I thought this can cause issues when ToC is different or if there are annotations/highlights/bookmarks? So I always remove the book being updated, but usually via Calibre. Occasionally I'll delete/remove a DNF ebook on the Kobo if I don't intend ever trying it again, though I might leave it in Calibre for posterity! |

Don't know about annotations or highlights as I don't use them. But if you are just making cosmetic changes to the book, it's fine. |

KoboTouchExtended calibre driver does everything that the base KoboTouch calibre driver does, i.e. everything under the first 3 tabs. The only options unique to KTE are the those on the 4th tab, 'Extended'. |

Hmmm... did this the easy way. Opened the KoboTouchExtended customization dialog and at the bottom of the 2nd page (Collections, covers & uploads) is a checkbox next to Do not treat replacements as new books. See attached image. |

Is there a way to completely delete a book from the database if you're going to update the TOC, without using Calibre or an SQL editor?

I just recently updated the TOC, deleted the old book via Calibre and sent the one with the updated TOC over. It worked. |

I shouldn't need to use third-party software just to properly update a file.

You have to have 3rd party SW *SOMEWHERE* to update a file on any device (rather than simply remove it) unless you are going to manually type it in (which isn't possible on any ereader).
Calibre seems to be the best software to manage ebooks from diverse sources including our own ebook creation. Better than using a file manager over USB (which is 3rd party software) and far better than WiFi to a server (which is 3rd party software), especially one owned by a corporation (the Cloud, Amazon, Google, Kobo libraries, dropbox etc are all opaque 3rd party software on someone else's server). |
