Question Can't Get Font of Book to Follow Settings - But Headers do?

Hi,

So, I've tried just about EVERYTHING I can think of within the basic GUI, but for whatever reason, converting this particular "ancient" book - well-formated Epub, the Epub file itself is complete and up to date - for the life of me I can't get it to respect my font choices.

https://ibb.co/QvPfGpp
https://ibb.co/fF1w3SM

Interestingly, after twisting as many dials and settings as possible, then clicking back to "Defaults" I did notice that...the HEADERS are all following the Fonts I'm specifying.

But, the book itself - just won't change. Keeps using it's own Serif Font, Times New Roman. Beyond the settings you see here, are there any OTHER settings that I could use to get this file to use a clean, modern serif Font, particularly Avenir.

At one point - just for the sake of testing - I even tried to set ALL the fonts to Avenir - every font setting. Still, no change.

Seems line HEIGHTS and other line-related variables DO respond. But, the font wont change.

What do you think is happening?

Sincerely,

Blaine

Probably Times New Roman is already embedded in the book. The easiest way to get rid of it is to edit the css. You can also try converting and checking the box Fonts in the Look & Feel -> Styling -> Filter style information. Note that after that, you must convert again to embed Avenir.

If that doesn't help, then Times New Roman is specified in some other way, probably in the inline styles. Editing the html is again the simplest way of getting rid of it.

Hi, Sirtel!

Ah! Sounds good. Let me give that a try. You wrote:

EDIT THE CSS

What sort of code line should I put there?

Also, here is what I saw with running it last time at the end of the job:
Removed 411 unused fonts
Merged 14 instances of AAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPSMT reducing size from 271.8 KB to 51.9 KB
Merged 4 instances of BAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-BoldItalicMT reducing size from 41.5 KB to 13.1 KB
Merged 18 instances of CAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT reducing size from 148.1 KB to 17.5 KB
Merged 22 instances of DAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-ItalicMT reducing size from 316.9 KB to 37.7 KB

Merged 738 instances of AAAAAA+Arial-BoldMT reducing size from 7.1 MB to 31 KB
Merged 84 instances of BAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-ItalicMT reducing size from 1.4 MB to 55.8 KB
Merged 74 instances of CAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPSMT reducing size from 2.4 MB to 92.5 KB
Merged 14 instances of BAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT reducing size from 163.2 KB to 22.3 KB
Merged 660 instances of BAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPSMT reducing size from 22.8 MB to 108.8 KB
Merged 550 instances of CAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-ItalicMT reducing size from 8.4 MB to 43.4 KB
Merged 156 instances of DAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT reducing size from 1.1 MB to 29 KB
Merged 2 instances of DAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPSMT reducing size from 55 KB to 44.9 KB
Merged 2 instances of DAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-BoldItalicMT reducing size from 12.1 KB to 6.4 KB
Merged 22 instances of AAAAAA+TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT reducing size from 205.6 KB to 11.8 KB
Merged 2 instances of AAAAAA+ArialMT reducing size from 58 KB to 48.3 KB

Not sure if this is of value, as I'm not really code-savvy, but just as a clue.

Sincerely,

Blaine

Editing the css/html is done in the editor, not with conversion. How exactly is different with each book, there's no one rule fits all.

Did you try converting with the Fonts box checked?
